No, you really need the program. I think there is a student version available for around $150.

Yes of course... few ways here..
Not Advise but you can go for it.
1. Download from Torrent and get your free AutoCAD with cracked code.
2. Buy the pirated and learn from there yourself.
Advise and you can go for it.
1. All CAD has its similar point in nature. Only command to draw line, erase, trim, cicle, ellipse, array and so on is different. You may get hold of other CAD software in your school and master them. Once you know, there should be no problem for you to learn AutoCAD in future which only take 1 day to get it done.
I know this because i learn AutoCAD since i was 16 years old ... 2D. However, i switch to other form of CAD software when i am studying in Universities. My learning curve to adapt for the new CAD software is just 2 hours...

I hope you don't have a lot invested in it, as a sculptor you would be much better served using an art type of program such as corel or canvas. AutoCad is for technical drawing. Not to say you can't be artistic with it, it's just not as free form as either of the two I mentioned.

Get the student version, read the help files. You should have a cad class available to you at school, take it. There are many sites that can help you too.

What I did was to buy a really cheap cad drawing program and learned to use that, then when you have the dough, your transition would be fairly painless. ( I say this with my tongue in my cheek!) What actually happened - I got so used to my cheaper program I never switched.

you can use learning CDs which contains videos or pictures to take an idea untill you get autocad
I think that decrease the time you need to be familiar with its interface when you get it
But to be good or professional user you have to use it actually
You can also train with help of a friend who has one
