I would imagine that it is the same procedure as degausing a CRT Monitor. Except you can use the windings of the transfomer instead of adding additional coils. Just start with a sufficiently high AC signal and slowly ( several seconds) reduce the amplitude of the AC signal to zero.

I have fixed problems on a CRT with a permanent magnet by moving it around the problem area and slowly pulling back as I circle it around. Depending on what you are trying to do and why, something like that might work as well.
