As I recall the benefits were that tubes could be made smaller than pn junctions and the power requirement was much lower. The problem was that the anode being only a few atoms in size was quickly destroyed by the collision of electrons. Anybody have an update?

What would happen if I touch a +12V DC line that can supply up to 6

Ive only been electrocuted once, by a throwaway camera strobe flash

I want to turn off a load that requires about 200mA. I am only familiar
with the common emitter setup for a NPN transistor, which cant be used
to turn off a positive voltage supply. I am unsure of the proper
technique for the other setup that allows for the control of a positive
voltage. Thanks.

Or, instead of using solar heat, why not use the heat from volcanos, or underground lava streams to create electricity? Would it be possible? I've often wondered this.

I expect to have a backhoe and small dump or flatbed truck available. I want to collect 1/2 to 1 yard samples, run them thru a crusher, and send them to a testing lab to determine suitability for concrete and HMAC.
What kind of containers are suitable for shipping the samples?
What is a typical sample amount needed to yield consistant test data?
What is a good general reference on field collection of rock and gravel for testing?
