I have an "inverter" that converts the power from the better to a voltage the laptop can use. It basicall transforms the battery source into one that is like a household plug on the wall.

Let's be conservative, err on the side of caution, assume your laptop uses 50 watts and your inverter is 50% efficient. Then you're drawing 8 amps from a 12 volt battery. A fully-charged car battery in reasonable condition holds at least 80 amp-hours of charge, so 10 hours minimum.

I wouldn't recommend hooking your laptop up to the converter. You may break your laptop. You need to get one of those direct DC plugs that go into a cigarette lighter. No telling what comes out of those converts. You may damage your battery. The manual for the converter should tell you something.

you want the present and voltage criteria of the computing device, and the Amp-hour means of the battery. An get mutually, the computing device takes 18 volts at 2 amps. that's 36 watts. If the vehicle battery is totally charged and has a means of 70 amp-hours. x 12 volts, that's 840 watt-hours. you'll choose a DC-DC converter to rework 12 volts to 18 volts. assume that's has ninety% performance, so that you've 756 watt hours of means. 756 watt-hours / 36 watts = 21 hours. .
