I understand how to write the equations from the word problem, what I am having problems with is the step -by-step completion of the problem.
Example:

The combined cost of one advance ticket to a show and one same-day ticket was $65. It is known that 40 tickets were sold in advance and 35 the same day, for total receipts of $2425 . What was the price of each kind of ticket?

x+y=40
40x+35y=2425

Now how do I solve this step-by-step? Help please because I know there are rules, I just don't know what they are and guessing what x and y might be seems to take too long :o(. Thanks

I've often seen this particular insect. It appears quite common, but I never learned its name. It's got 6 legs and 2 antenna. It's back is flat, almost to the point of seeming to have no head (I'm not sure if it can fly), and at the back of its back is an upside down V in light read. It appears to move rather slowly, in what to humans would be a brisk walk, taking its size into account, which I'd estimate is 1-1.5 cm long, or maybe a half inch. Also, I live in NY state, where at certain times of the year they seem to be very abundent. I'm sorry I can't give much more specific information.

Can you make 4 cars line up and in a horizontal line on a four lane u.s . express way
you cant exceed the speed limit of 55 mph and and must all end doing a speed limit of 55 mph

all cars start out driving in a vertical line doing the speed of 45 mph with 50 ft between cars, they must end doing a speed of 55 mph

the minnimum speed thay can do is 45 mph and the max they can do is 55 i need to know the exact time each car will act and exactly what the action will be

you must obey the speed limit and THE LAW (COPS) ARE FOLLOWING BEHIND YOU AND INFRONT OF YOU AS TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE FOLLOWING THE MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM SPEED LIMIT , there is no trafic and all cars are brand new and have the same reaction time , you must be going at least 50 mph in the two left lanes

you must explain any formulas u use and your method of arriving at this answer

stars for all legitimate(reall attempts) answers ten points for the most logical(in my opinion)

I found out the amount of joules used in the hydration process for them, but don't know how to convert them to "energy of hydration per mole". 217.4 joules was thr amount for Copper Sulfate.
