Climate change can easily destroy a civilization, it might be a good idea to be wary of any changes that could eliminate major portions of our food supply.

And while most informed people believe it is likely we are adding to climate change, the extent we are affecting it is an unknown quantity.... and even then we are creatures of habit, unwilling to make drastic changes in our lifestyle until we have to do so.

- it is hard to give up things that we like to use or even must use that contribute to greenhouse gas emissions
- the aggregate effect of all we do is what is causing CO2 levels to rise, not the individual contributions - if we could cut energy use without cutting our standard of living then perhaps it might be more palatable.
- some people pick up causes to be cool, not because they really believe in the cause - their friends to so they do... as long as it doesn't hurt, they'll go along...
- The science used to either justify or counter the argument about global warming is complex, with many competing factors that make it difficult to gain consensus in the scientific community - so it becomes a 'belief' not a 'fact' or provable theory - as such, people argue more on an emotional plane than a logical plane - because it is an emotional argument, even proponents don't think logically when they use energy that might contribute the carbon footprint - it is hard to tell where the electricity comes from in your house....
