That is a moon halo. Ice crystals high in our atmosphere are reflecting the moon light. Keep watching as it might even make a rainbow around the moon sometimes. Cool!

The ring can be caused either by ice crystals or by water droplets. Usually it's ice crystals, but the important thing is that it means the upper atomosphere is moist. Hence, rainy or snowy weather might be coming.

It is true that us "old folks" believed that a ring meant rain was coming. It's also true that the number of stars inside the halo (visible to the naked eye) was the number of days until rain. Think about it, though: if several stars are visible then the moisture level, on average, likely is less than if fewer stars are visible (the air is clearer in the former case). So, maybe there is some truth to the lore of the old folks after all!

Incidentally, there are moonbows, created in the same manner as rainbows. Fogbows, created by moonlight on fog are known, as well.

The large ring that you see is a 22 degree halo. This happened when the moon is relatively dimly lit. High thin cirrus clouds scatter moonlight.
Halos around the moon are a different matter and are caused by water droplets of clouds.

They are called halo or carona.
Carona is caused by diffraction by water drops present in the altostratus cloud.
Halo is caused by refraction by ice crystals in cirrostratus cloud.
A carona is distinguished from a halo by its reversal of colour sequence, the red of the halo being inside, that of the carona outside.
