Newborn & Baby - November 2006

Some people have babies that cry allthe time, then have tantrums, wont eat properly etc, while some have babies that are happy, easygoing, sleep lots.
How much of this is genes, and how much is it to do with how the baby is handled and the environment it is brought up in?

My son has almost grown out of his little bathtub, the problem is that he's only 5 months old and can't sit up on his own. His legs are too long for this tub and he has also just surpassed the weight limit of 25lbs. Has anyone else gone through this? What would everyone suggest I do? Should I just get into the big tub with him whenever I bath him or is there an easier solution? Thanks

I was wondering, Are there any parents around here, That take care of their newborns/children on a 'demand' schedule?

If so- I've been trying this with my 5 day old daughter, BUT- it's not working as well w/her as it did my 18 month old...She doesn't seem to want to wake up to eat, I have to wake her up..Should I let her decide for herself when she's hungry, and feed her on HER time, or should I continue to wake her up every 3 hours to feed her?

Ok well while I was pregnant I gained 42lbs. My son is now 4 months, I am breastfeeding and I have lost 55lbs. I'm not saying this too be like "look at me I'm sooo skinny." I am serious!! I am losing hair, but I feel like I have enough energy to pass it out freely to other mothers and the weight loss is out of control. What's wrong??

I have a little boy, and I HATE using baby powder on him. Once he pees, he gets all that mucky stuff all in his little fat creases... do I really need to be using baby powder? Can I just use vaseline or baby oil gel instead?

My baby is 3 weeks old. She is breastfed and formula fed. I recently changed formulas from similac advance to nestle good start soy. She was really gassy before the switch and after (she takes mylicon to help get them out). Im lactose intolarant, dont know if she is hence the switch (thought it would get rid of the gas and fussiness, but it didn't)

She hasn't pooped in two and a half days. She toots alot(!!) and pees alot. She's not crying but she looks ultra uncomfortable, and is pretty fussy. We called the doctor and they had us stimulate her bum hole with our finger :( she didn't cry at all and pooped a little. doctor said she's not blocked up and fine, but she seems miserable

I used to love it but then they made it healthier and now it's terrible! I called the company to complain, but they just sent me a coupon for more cereal.

I have no problems feeding with my flat nipples but I need to express milk for cerial and other reasons. I have tried two inexpensive breast pumps one manual and the other electric and I can have it on for 30 min and get nothing. When I self express I get milk but it takes for ever. I really can not afford any nice pump[s $100 or more and I live in a small town were my hospital does not rent pumps. Any Ideas on how I could get a pump to work? I have even tried to get the flow going by having the baby nurse for a while then pump, no luck.
My baby is 4 months old and my milk supply is very good and strong.

How many days early/late was your baby from the due date?

Did your bundle of joy arrive very early or did he/she make you wait for ages?

My three month old daughter went in last week to dr to get first set of shots, which made her sick. I called my physician because she has the worst cough and stuffy nose. It is just makeing her misarable. I talked to the nurse and she suggested Delsym, which is a cough compressant. This did not seem right to me since she needs to be getting this out of her lungs. When I went to the paramcy and ask for help he went off on me telling me this could make her stop breathing and i should use Dinetapp decongestant. I ask my mother and she agreed(she is a peds nurse). When I read the bottle they say not to give to anyone under two years of age. Can anyone realte to this and what did you do?

Every time I change my newborn boy's nappy I notice a pinky red stain in where he has wee'd. I understand that newborns can pass urates, but I understood these to be more yellowy orange. To be honest, it looks like blood. I will be getting this checked out by my midwife today, but if anyone has any useful or professional experience of this then I would appreciate your input.

I recently stopped breastfeeding. My nipples have a lot of dry skin on them, and one day one of them started bleeding. Is this normal? What should I do?

I'm looking for the best REUSABLE nursing pad. I hate how much garbage accumulates in the bathroom with disposable nursing pads and would like to know everyone's experiences with reusable ones.
