Some people have babies that cry allthe time, then have tantrums, wont eat properly etc, while some have babies that are happy, easygoing, sleep lots.
How much of this is genes, and how much is it to do with how the baby is handled and the environment it is brought up in?

believe me it's nothing to do with genetics or all that junk it's 2 do with ur parenting par example your baby might cry alot if u teach it 2 be soree 4 itself by rushing to it everytime it cries etc
the baby will be content if it's handeled lots loved and not spoiled.
it's not much to do with enviornment but if u want to be a good mum just treat the baby as a person not a baby.

good luck and btw this is coming from a 12 year old hear lol!

both nature and nurture influence a childs behavior. in fact one compliments or clashes with the other. If you have a strong willed child, which is not bad, but it is in an environment with a push over or weak parent then you will have problems. if you have an insecure, needy child in a very strong, independent family then there again you have problems. i think to, believe it or not but conditions in the womb play a big part in how a child a year and under behaves. with my first child i was bedridden sick the entire 9 months. it is amazing she was born "healthy". I could not hardly eat anything, i was on medication and iv all the time, not to mention how depressed i was due to my physical state. I weighed 130 when got pregnant and 90 a few hours after birth. I tell you I was sick. Anyway, she cried all the time, she also could not keep anything down, breastmilk, formula, nothing. She had colic for what seemed like forever. With my second child I had a perfect pregnancy and after he was born he virtualy never criedl, slept through the night from almost day one, did not have colic and was the most content child I had ever seen. The difference was amazing. I did a little research once and found that most women(not all) who had difficult pregnancies or deliveries had much more difficult children in the first 6months to a year after birth than did the women that had fairly easy pregnacies and deliveries. I don't think the pregnancy impacts the child permanately but I do believe it affects them in the first 6 months or so. what we eat, drink, how we feel all impacts the new little life in us. as for genes verses environment for children i think that genes play a big factor but ultimately the succes or failure will be in the hands of the childs environment.

The old nature or nurture debate.

Truthfully, I don't know - but both are influential.

I have a friend that has two kids that she has parented in exactly the same way - one is an angel, and one is a little horror.

Clearly, any child (even with an angelic nature) will start to ape the behaviour he or she experiences. Children of very bad parents will often be angry and hard to control. But it's not always the case.

So, to answer your question, genes and environment both have an important part to play in a child's personality.

It is Nurture VS Nature. All children are diffrent, I have 4 children and each is unique in thier own way. Not one acts the same, they all respond diffrently. It is a 50% of each. But also I believe it has to do with prenatal care as well, the more the mother is stressed doing pregnancy the likley it will be the baby will be more difficult, while the less stress and the more you are able to talk and sing and rub your stomach doing the 9 months of carrying the baby the likley the baby will be calm.

Lack of sleep is the cause of most problems.

If you get your baby into a routine asap, which includes sleeping through the night(mine both did it by 8 weeks), you stay calm with baby, and don't pick it up at every opportunity then you will have a easygoing child.

Babies cry to let you know that something is wrong. Unfortunately that could be the temperature in the room and crying is all you'll get. Babies that are happy, easygoing and who sleep well feel safe, secure and have little stress.

each child is different. I had a baby from hell ........ he never slept he always cried and was a demon child when he was a toddler. I thought how could this be my child he is a demon. I went to a specialist for answers. He had mommy syndrome. He was always with me and I was his main discipline , when my husband and i worked together things changed. Our son is now 18 and an awesome young man. He has never been in any trouble he is in grade 12 and working. He has his own car and very responsible. SO I say it has to do with the way you raise your children.

constant crying is usually due to a baby's inability to communicate effectively. listen to his/her crying and associate the level and intensity to whatever seems to clam her down. there will be different levels for different needs. hunger is a more immediate need and therefore will produce louder squalls than say, a dirty diaper, unless the diaper is let go for too long.
