ive been trying since my daughter was 1..finally at 2 she started taking the sippy cup....for some babies its harder, some easier...i suggest going to wal-mart and gettin a sippy cuo called "nuby" the top, where he drinks out of, is made of the same rubbery stuff a nipple is made out of...my daughter loved them!!!

I started offering a sippy cup of water at 6 months, and I let him play with it a bit, and then put water in it. It didn't take him long to figure out how it worked so by 7 months he was drinking is juice or water from his cup. All babies are different, and from what I've read, breast fed babies adapt quicker to sippy cups then bottle fed babies, not sure why. If she doesn't want it, just wait a while. Or you could try a cup with the straw in it instead.

I have to agree with Allii that the Nuby sippy cups are the best. We went through 2 other kinds before I could get my 8 month old daughter to take a sippy cup. She's just now learning how to do it, and it comes with handles which make sit easy for her to hold. She would not take the cup with water though, I had to put apple juice in it for her to want to try to take it. I dilute the apple juice down with water at about 70% water to 30% juice. So far it has been working.

I plan on letting my daughter drink from a sippy cup for a minimum of a million greater 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. If, by ability of age 2 she nonetheless won't be able to drink from a regularly occurring cup, i will provide her certainly one of those water bottles that has the straws geared up in. i think of three plus years is only too previous for a sippy cup.

My son was about the same age when I took his bottles away too. I got the sippy's with the rubber end, because he wouldn't take the ones with the hard plastic. Then I took out the rubber stops inside that reduce the flow. I drizzled a little on his lips so he knew what was inside the cup (I put his favorite juice in it) and he did the rest. It was a bit messy, but he got the gist of it after about 2 -3 days and I was able to put the rubber stops in.
Can she drink from a straw? They have really neat sippy's with straws now that may work better for her too. (they didn't have them when my son was little or I would have went that route instead)
Good luck

We finally got my daughter to take the sippy cup at 14 months by taking out the flow control and only putting a little bit of liquid in at a time. With the flow control in , she just didn't figure out that it was a drink. Now she drinks from it all the time but still prefers a bottle.

DS (now 8 months) has never really done well with a sippy- but can drink well from a regular cup. Some people even cup feed infants unstead of bottle! He seems to want to chew on the sippy, but feels the water on his lips with the cup and knows what to do.

I only feed him a few sips of water with his solids. I wouldn't rush your baby, honestly, drinking from a sippy isn't some major milestone that she has to accomplish!

My son is 5 months old. When he turns 6 months I plan on giving him juice in a sippy cup. Right now I put him in his highchair and let him play with his cup as a toy that way he is more familar with it. I think if your daughter is drinking juice it should only come from a cup not a bottle. It's much easier to take the bottle away if they are familar with a cup.

I would say , let the baby decide. I introduced sippy cup at 10 months, but my daughter started taking it herself after 12 months. So just keep that in front of the baby and she'll take whenever she is ready.

There is a sippy you can buy at Wal-mart for about $1.50, it is Nuby brand. My son loved this one and took to it right away even though he wouldn't use ANY of the other brands we tried. The spout is soft and pliable, very similar to a bottle's nipple. All the other's we'd tried had hard spouts which I think he didn't like. We own 8 Nuby's now!!! Good luck! Some babies are ready as early as 6 months, it's just a matter of change for them and finding the right fit.
