I have a little boy, and I HATE using baby powder on him. Once he pees, he gets all that mucky stuff all in his little fat creases... do I really need to be using baby powder? Can I just use vaseline or baby oil gel instead?

I wouldn't use baby oil. If this is to help with diaper rash, try one of the creams or ointments that are specifically for diaper rash. A&D oinment, Butt Paste, Desitin, Aquafor....just to name a few.

Actually, it has been recommended by doctors that baby powder NEVER be used on babies... Apparently it is very dangerous if the baby inhales any of the excess baby powder that floats around in the air... I am not sure what effect it would have on the little ones lungs but the idea does make sense!

I like to use Vaseline with my son... Just make sure to wipe up any excess moisture after you've used a baby wipe or wet cloth... If you don't you'll be sealing in that moisture on the skin once you use the Vaseline... and that's a breeding ground for more diaper rashes...

Who says you have to use baby powder? I had 2 boys, and never used it on them at all. It isn't necessary. Just be sure to change when needed and clean up with a wipe. Use an ointment if a rash does develop and keep things as dry as possible by changing ASAP, and he should be fine. I have heard that the powder is kinda bad for the infant he breathes in the powder, it can be a choking hazard.

OK, you shouldn't use baby powder because it's actually quite bad for their skin and they shouldn't need it. It's an idea we were brought up with but now isn't generally recommended. If you HAVE to use a drying agent use cornstarch powder instead.

Don't use Vaseline AT ALL because it is petroleum (petrol) based. Baby oil is more for all-over moisturising and again you are better off with a natural oil like olive, apricot or almond oils.

For nappy rash use a proper nappy rash cream but dry the area first with a tissue or cotton balls.

Apparently, you are NOT suppose to use baby powder. It's not good for them, as it traps the moisture against their skin (like what you are seeing, mucky stuff trapped in his creases) and can cause rashes. Plus as others are saying, they can breath it in to their tiny lungs, which isnt good at all. Cornstarch or a special diaper cream is the way to go!

I do not use baby powder either In all honesty a infant can in hail the powder and it cause mare harm that it can help. There is a powder in a gel form if you think you need to use a powder I'd advise you to use the gel powder it dries and turns into the powder,

No you do not need to use baby powder, in fact, in can be dangerous, if it is flying around and he breathes it in. Just use Vaseline if you need a barrier from moisture, or a commercial diaper rash cream.

You also don't need to wipe off the moisture barrier with every diaper change unless there is stool on it, it will just irritate your child's skin more.

I personally don't put anything on my child's skin unless her skin is starting to turn pink. Just change the diaper often to keep your child from sitting in the wet diaper.

My pediatrician told me that there is no need to even use baby powder .. so i never have! I have always used vitamin A&D cream and i think it works great! Try it! You can also try some other over the counter creams used for babies! I am sure they would do the same thing. Good Luck!

I have a four month old son and have never used baby powder on him. Just every other time I change him I just wipe him down real good. Unless he has a rash it is not necessary to use anything. Good luck!!!

If this is for rash reasons, dont use powder. I never liked the way it would stick to my daughters skin. I use A&D at every diaper change. My daughter sleeps for many hours straight, and she never gets a rash.
