My three month old daughter went in last week to dr to get first set of shots, which made her sick. I called my physician because she has the worst cough and stuffy nose. It is just makeing her misarable. I talked to the nurse and she suggested Delsym, which is a cough compressant. This did not seem right to me since she needs to be getting this out of her lungs. When I went to the paramcy and ask for help he went off on me telling me this could make her stop breathing and i should use Dinetapp decongestant. I ask my mother and she agreed(she is a peds nurse). When I read the bottle they say not to give to anyone under two years of age. Can anyone realte to this and what did you do?

Dimetapp has a decongestant in it that can cause hemorrhagic stroke in women between the ages of 18-40. It is safe for children though. ( I loved the Kool-Aid taste) Get your baby a vaporizer and a jar of children's Vics.

the best thing to do is to let it run it's course. It's good that she is coughing it up. You should only worry if she wasn't coughing up flem. What I do with my son is turn on the hot shower in the bathroom for steam and open the window a crack. Sit in there for 20 minutes. Do it 3 times a day. This will help to losen up even more stuff in the lungs. If she has a fever give her infant tylenol. Another thing I noticed helps is Vicks vapor rub. rub some on her chest and back.
Children should not be medicated every time they have a cold. Just enough to make them comfortable (like tylenol for fever). She's little and her body is beginning to build up its immune system. Just try the steam thing and the Vicks, let the rest run it's course.

I agree with the other answers about the vaporizer and the baby vicks. One thing I can add is to rub some of the baby vicks on the bottom of her feet and put socks on her. This helped with my boys. The vaporizer will really help too, even now I myself will plug the vaporizer in, in my bedroom if I start to feel congested and it helps me. Hope this helps and best of luck!

If your baby is on juices yet..take her off the formula and give her juice as much as possible. Milk makes everything thicker and the juice will help her be able to get the phlem cleared out. Good Luck

If you call your parmasist they will ask you her weight and be able to tell you exactly how much to give her.my sone weighs about 1 1/2 lbs and he should get about .5ml. but his doc said to try benadryl to dry all that gunk up.
hope that helps some :)
