I recently stopped breastfeeding. My nipples have a lot of dry skin on them, and one day one of them started bleeding. Is this normal? What should I do?

They sell lanolin nipple creams. Lanolin is an extremely effective nipple moisturizer. The bleeding is probably because the skin on your nipple is cracked from the dryness; I wouldn't worry. Super-common complaint among breastfeeding mothers. If you fear infection, reach for the hydrogen peroxide or antibiotic ointment.

Wear a soft cotton bra that will let air circulate and won't irritate. Go completely topless as much as possible (if you can) to avoid friction on your nipples until they heal.

I agree with the Lansinoh...it really is a soothing ointment. Just rub it between your fingers before applying it to the nipple, it's a little thick, and will spread much easier. You could also still put a breast pad in your bra so it doesn't stain the bra or your shirt.

Use a lanolin-based cream on them [Lansinoh is a good make].

Wear a cotton bra, and try to get the air on them as much as possible.

As with all things, if it concerns you go see a doctor to put your mind at rest. :)

Sounds weird but put vasaline or some vitamin E on them.

I would try some Lansinoh cream on it.

I would monitor it...maybe use some neosporin...but if it becomes painful then you might want to seek some medical advice...

There is a cream esp. for this.
Try aloe.
And while you're at it, you can ask a doctor.
