My first 2 sons started walking at 12 months, a few days after their birthdays and my 3rd son walked at 15 months. All is different. They usually say there is no problems, unless the baby is still not walking by 18 or 19 months, but even then, some are just slow pokes.

Well believe it or not my neice started walking at 7 1/2 months. That is the earliest I have ever seen. My two oldest daughters walked at 9 1/2 months and the other just before her first birthday. My youngest is still quite aways from her walking days. My best friends daughter didnt start walking until she was 17 months. So I guess it all depends on the child.

firstly, You have to be careful of falling into playing the comparing game with other people about babies. this will drive you round the bend. each child develops at their own rate, and if your baby is a month or two behind it doesn't mean they are inept.
second, kids might start to crawl or walk before 9 months, after that they have until they are 1 and a half years old to be walking without any help. if your child is still not walking by 1 and a half then you should get this checked by a doctor.

Babies learn to walk when they are ready and not anytime sooner. The coordination required to take those few tentative steps is dependent on environmental stimulation, certainly. However, it also requires a sufficient degree of myelination in the brain.
Myelin is the "coating" on nerve cells that allows for transmission of information to be smooth and efficient in the same way that a cord around a wire makes electrical transmission efficient.
Myelination can only happen as a child's brain develops but it's also a good idea to stimulate your baby as he or she demonstrates readiness. In other words, please don't push things. Please don't assume that because someone claims their baby walked at 6 months of age that yours ought to. Your baby will walk as he or she is ready.
As a mother of three, I've seen just how varied the age at which a child walks can be. My firstborn was taking his first few shaky steps around 13 months of age, my daughter closer to 16 months of age while my youngest made the attempt around his first birthday.
Finally, a few of the other responders mentioned walking toys. These are a wonderful idea under supervision as kids have this amazing ability to find open doors leading to basements, garages or other nasty places.
If you have any other questions or concerns, please talk with your doctor or the nearest community health centre. Yeah, I know it sounds like a commercial, but it really is a good idea!
Hope that helps!!

There is a range of average from 10 to 14 months. Doing so before or after is not abnormal although if the baby does so after 14 months you should check in with your MD.

My daughter didn't walk on her own until two weeks after her 1st birthday. She did walk around the sofa and coffee table while holding on at 9 1/2 months. but should wouldn't let go. Every child is different. Good luck.

Every child is different. My son started walking a little after 12 months. But he started furniture walking when he was 11 months.
My friend's daughter started walking at 10 months.
Relax and your child will walk when (s)he's ready. Just enjoy yourself now. When kids start walking, they get into more trouble.

some babies do start walking young but most are walking at or around a year old...give or take a month...i do not think any baby starts walking the same..it does help if you work with them and get them secure and walking around things first...then try walking from the mother to the dad...it is kind of like a game but they love it and so will you...
