My 13 year old niece is now living with me and goes to a nice private school that doesn't wear uniforms (it does have a strict dress code though.) My niece made friends with girls I don't approve of them. They are 13 or 14 and trash talk the teachers, get bad grades, stay out past cerfew, give back talk and act like the school's preps. My niece joined the "group" and now she's sort of acting with them. How can i encurage her to hang out with better friends? Some of them smoke and the 14 year olds drink. I am her gaurdian and are worried. She's gone to a few parties that she said were chaparoned but that was before I found out about the drinking and drugs. I have two small children (2 months and 1 1/2.) and I don't want them getting hurt.

..table foods, grrr. She's still into her organic veggie jars and breast milk. I tried some ice cream and it worked pretty well. Other than that... no chance.
She only plays with food, puts it in her hair etc. Small cut bread is ok at times but most of that stuff lands on the carpet.
My daughter is 16 months old and VERY active.

my baby book says 6 weeks, is that right or can you put a baby in a swing sooner than that? My baby is just a few days over a month old.

My fiance had his son get him a beer from the refrigerator this weekend. When he went back to his mothers this must have came up (I'm sure with much probing from her) and she freaked out. Is it really that bad that he got him a beer?

Ok let me explain the situation and tell me what you think..
Me and my fiance are bringing up my 3 kids ages 4,6 & 7, Well before he came into my kids and my life 3 yrs ago, I admit i was having a hard time with the kids listening to everything i said, but it seemed like when we were together they listened.. Like they did need a man in their life, And they love him to death!!
Here is the problem, When the kids dont listen, and im talking really dont listen and act awful we put them in a time out in a chair or put them in their room if they are screaming at the top of their lungs and my family ( my mother and my grandmother mainly) They think its the worst thing and get mad and flip out on me.. They think i should just take it easy on them.. They always say " There Just Kids, Let them act like it " But they are not around them all the time either..
Right now were all fighting, How can i get them to understand our point about disipline?
Its not like we slap them or anything...

The other day we were going on a trip with DD's nursery and close to the nursery I stopped for a moment to check something. It's a quiet side road and I stopped just inside a church car park next door to the nursery. There were no cars, and as I said it's a very quiet road, but I still felt safer parking the buggy there than on the narrow pavement, ironically.

Basically a car came into the car park when I had my back turned for a moment, and suddenly my kids were jolted by this car, not injured thank God, but someone had hit the buggy and knocked it (and obviously them) a foot or two...AND CARRIED ON DRIVING! Slowly it has to be said, I know it wasn't a dramatic hit and run, the driver had pulled into the car park to park there, but it was only when I was banging on her window shouting "You've just hit my children!" that she realised! She had no idea of what she had just done.

She was a rather senior lady let's say, and obviously felt terrible about it, and the kids were fine (more upset by my sudden outburst than anything!), and she was shaken when she knew what she had done, but how forgiving should I be? Or how angry?

A member of staff from the nursery came over, and went to get the parent support worker who has been a lifeline to me at times, knows us well. She put her arm around the woman and told her not to worry as no harm was done etc., and not to let this put her off driving. I think the first nursery nurse probably told her that the children were alright, but I was still surprised!

We had already exchanged numbers and the woman said she would appreciate if I could call her on our return from the day out, to reassure her that everyone was fine. I said I would try - I kind of felt obliged to be more polite than I wanted to be because of the nursery teacher being so nice to her!!!

But all sympathy seemed to be for her rather than us...she rammed into my kids pushchair - we were stationary in an empty car-park for God’s sake!

The family support worker, who as I said I know quite well, later suggested that if I liked she would phone this woman to reassure her that all was well, and to try to make sure this didn't knock her confidence as a driver...anyway I forgot to give her the number so she couldn't and I am glad, as I am not sure I want to encourage her to continue driving after hitting my children! They weren't hurt, but they could have been, or worse.
By the way she said she didn't see us, and as I said she didn't even notice that she had hit my kids.

Well, how sympathetic would you be? How angry would you be? What would your reaction be?

Am I right not to want to phone her and reassure her? To be too angry to?

My son is seven months old. I normally run to pick him up whenever he cries but I'm just so tired and I'm desperate for sleep. Would it be ok to put him down in his cot, even if he's awake and not pick him up till I've had a sleep or would it damage him emotionally? I'm so tired that I feel weak and dizzy but I don't know if it will do harm to him to not go to him when he cries?
thank you

me and my friend took our kids to mcdonalds after church today and there was this other girl ther ewith her kids and he was hitting our kids with a piece of the rubber floor.
she wouldn't tell him to stop so i yelled at the kid to knock it off before someone got hurt.
the lady got pissed i had said somthing to him. and i told her to get over it cause i wasn't gonna let my kid get hurt cause she couldn't control hers.
my friend told all our kids not to play with that other boy because he couldn't play right and the woman got mad about that too.

I have tried and tried to stop him because I feel he is too old. He gets so distressed during the night, he has not slept for three nights, nor have I !, is it wrong to give him what comforts him so much ? It is not the milk (skimmed) so much as the bottle, he would even drink warm water from it. He was so upset he was hitting himself in the chest. Scary ! Am I too soft ? how do I ever get over this ?
