I have always loved this name! It is not too old fashioned and not super popular so that her kindergarden class has 15 of them!
LOVE it!!

Janie sounds like a nickname. I don't think it's sophisticated enough to stand on its' own. Jaimie is similar, but doesn't sound as babyish as Janie. A kid named Janie is cute but an adult? The effect is not the same. Jaimie can be used at all ages. It's a stronger sounding name than Janie, perhaps that's why. Janie sounds a little weak. I'd stick to Jane, Jayne, or Jaine, and use Janie as as nickname only.

Well, I think of two things
Firstly, a small town country singer, Janie Lou Millesaps who always sang at county fairs. Her mom put lots of make-up on her like Jonbenet.
She wore country style clogger dresses.
She over sang really loud. Her mom lip sync-ed in the audience.
The other is Aerosmith's Janie's got a gun.

Hey!
I do like Janie but I agree that it sounds more like a nickname then a full name. It is cute though and different. I just would say that Jane ages better..
