GOD NO!!!!!! I had 2 foster children a few years ago and I had them for 3 years. I had the little girl who is 6 and the next thing I know- the other foster parents couldnt keep her brother anymore and they wanted the kids to be together which is great but I ended up with a 7 month old baby and a 6 year old when i really only wanted one at a time! You get a call when a child needs help NOT the child u want to help but the one who needs it! No picking at that!

I can't speak for other states, but here in FL the case worker calls you, tells you the details, and you decide yes or no based on any reason you feel whatsoever. They need foster parent's support for every child, so they will not place a child you are uncomfortable with in your home. But remember, LOTS of older kids want a foster home too, and they are often "leftover" because most request the young ones. Try to keep an open mind and heart!

A friend of mine only takes newborn - three years old right now. Her son is 3 and as he gets older she might consider raising the age limit.

my parents have always had foster kids since we were younger, and they would only take kids of certain ages, and that is what they always got.
They were with "whites" which was a great agency and always tried to work with em.
