There are many things in life that you need a license for.

Ironicly, the most important task any one of us will ever undertake, having and raising children, requires nothing other than conception.

If you look at the statistics on child abuse, child obesity & childhood poverty in this country, you wonder why there is not some sort of mandated course or instruction on the basics of raising children.

Should we require parents / couples / single moms / who are pregnant to undergo some sort of basic schooling on child rearing?

Lets hear from you!

I'm researching a variety of child care options for my baby-to-be. It seems that the prices vary in Maryland from $125 for home daycare to $225 for a day care center. I'm not thrilled with any of the prospects in my area. Any suggestions? Has anyone ever used a nanny (not live-in) or au pair? How expensive are they? Is it worth the additional cost?

My problem is with parents that are doing exactly what they are supposed to do... being parents.

Now, before i explain any further, I am 15 years old, but mature for my age. I have always been honest with my parents and responsible as anyone should expect from a 15 year old. So why the heck don't they trust me?

The situation is, my boyfriend is 18, just graduated high school, and has moved into his own place. I have been dating him for a year now, and possibly many years to come, so this is quite a bit more than a crush...

you see, now that his apartment is his new hangout, I can't be with him there because my parents will not allow this. I think what theyre trying to do is protect me from a situation that I can't handle, but they don't know that I've already done the whole "totally alone" thing with him. He respects my limits when we are alone.

Might seem silly, but it's really important to me that I am allowed in his new apartment. But now, how do I convince my...

There are other things in life. Monkeys can have sex. cats can have sex. Even amebas can reproduce. It's not that grat a skill. Can't any of us talk about anything (dare I say it) intelligent. No wonder people think teenagers are inane.

I posted this question the other day but didnt really get any answers,so I am re-wording it. Is there any woman here that was never married to her childs father and had to give him 50/50 custody? If so how did it happen, I mean did you have to go in front of a judge, did you have to sign papers....?Anyone have a story similar to this.....?
When my son was an infant all 3 of us had our mouths swabbed and a dna test was done, his father didnt sign the papers claiming paternity so I'm thinking thats why they did it. We had to go the the child support office where they also figured out what i would get in child support being 50/50, but the woman there said that we have to do 50/50 custody and we should make up a schedule or the courts would make one for us....that was it...? I didnt sign anything and neither did his dad, thats all that was said...is this how it goes..? Is it legal? Anyone with experience with this only please.

If a girl is not ovulating for about 3 days. She may have a little bit of sperm in her vagina. Will the fluid or "mucas" from the vagina kill the sperm before it reached the fallopian tubes?

Some one close to me has a 3 month old baby and while visiting the other day I noticed that, while they are trying to put the baby to sleep they cover the whole head with a blanket, because "it works".
I said it probably works because the baby's oxygen is reduced so the baby eventually passes out, you can see the poor thing struggling to get out from under the blanket, but they hold it down until he is asleep, then lay him down in the playpen with his face still covered.
I kept walking over and uncovering his face (I have a 10 month old and I would never put something over her face while sleeping) but they would notice and cover it back up.
Do anyone else think this is dangerous for the baby and if so how do I approach the family about it?
