Hi!
I agree with both Ashley and Jason. Try to find the nail polish that tastes bad. In the mean time, tell your four-year-old that he/she will get worms if they keep biting their nails.... which can be a true statement. Have you ever heard of Pinworms? Common type of intestinal worm that children can get... especially for children who attend Daycare where many children share toys/bathrooms. Pinworms are usually spread via fingers, so it is easy to ingest the Pinworm eggs and infect oneself. So tell her your four-year-old to keep his/her fingers out of the mouth. :)

Don't do anything. Don't make a big deal out of it. I used to bite my nails and the more my mother got on me about it the more I bit my nails. Eventually I was old enough to want to stop and I did so, on my own, because my mother had more to worry about than me biting my nails. You could offer to take her get her nails done professionally with you when she is a little older, but putting nail polish on the nails will only be a hazard for her.

The only way I know of is to get some of that really nasty tasting nail polish (I have no idea where you buy it... but people use it to stop biting their nails) and put it on her. Everytime she bites her nails, she would get a nasty taste in her mouth until she stopped.

Ensure that her nails are regularly and neatly cut. Then try to anoint some bitter testing juice like karela juice on her fingers to start with. Her habit will slowly get discontinued.

Forget it! My parents put hot stuff on my fingers and stuff that tasted bad. They tried everything. I'm now a senior citizen and I still bite my nails except when I'm wearing acrylics.

There is some paint-on stuff called Thum that tastes yucky. Problem is, you have to keep reapplying it everytime she washes her hands. Also, try to take note of when she is doing it (while watching TV? during rest time? in the car?) and find something else to keep her hands busy at those times.

There is all kinds of bad tasting crap that is made specifically for that. Every time they put their fingers in their mouth they get whatever flavor that is.
