It is very common not to have your period for the first 6-12 months while breastfeeding. Some women go even longer than that. Or you could be pregnant. Exclusive breastfeeding alone is about 98% effective for the first in preventing pregnancy if you haven't had a period; you could be in the 2% that can get pregnant. (For more information, read _Breastfeeding and Natural Child Spacing_ by Sheila Kippley.) Or the birth control could have messed this up and eliminated the protection from pregnancy.

If you have been taking your birth control on a regular schedule. Then I would not believe that you are pregnant. But I do know that in my case I didn't have a period until I stopped breastfeeding my son. Which was just last month (my son is 10 months now, and likes to bite). I was on the mini-pill and did not have a period the whole entire time I breastfeed and used BC. So don't worry your body will soon be yours again and more predictable. But just to be on the safe side get a test. You are more fertile after giving birth then any other time.

It is possible that you could be pregnant! Breastfeeding does work as some sort of birth control, but its not 100%. If you haven't gotten your period, and are breastfeeding and taking birth control pills than its very unlikely that you are pregnant....but it has happened! Not getting your period is very normal while you are breastfeeding, although I got mine after 1 month, but my mom says she didn't have one for 2 years while breastfeeding! You should probably be safe and take a pregnancy test to make sure you are not pregnant, because if you are then you need to stop taking the birth control as it could harm the baby. Good luck!

It has been 9 years since my last baby was born and I know things change, but I don't believe taking birth control pills while nursing is recommended. My doctor wouldn't prescribe them again until my baby was completely weaned. In regards to getting your period while breastfeeding, I nursed my daughter exclusively until she was 6 months old and I didn't get a period until she began solids and I breastfed less. I think she was about 9 months old when I got my first period after her birth. Breastfeeding, however, is not a reliable method of birth control. You can get pregnant again before your period returns.

I breastfed my first for 15 months and I got my period back when he was 8 months old. But, I never took birth control so I would think that you not having your period back is kinda strange since you're on the pill. All my friends that have had babies that took the pill always had their period back right away. So just take a pregnancy test right away because it could be that your pregnant, or that your body is just responding differently to the pill.

Are you exclusively breastfeeding? Odds are good that your period isn't ready to return yet. Some women take forever to get it back while breastfeeding. Some never get a period while nursing. Some only get it back after baby begins solids.
With my first, my period came back at 10 months. He was still nursing but had recently made the switch from baby foods to finger foods.
With my second, I was TANDEM nursing and my period came back at 9.5 months. Again, I think it was related to her increase in solid food intake.
With my third, I didn't get my period back until something like 16 months! I'm not sure why it took so long that time around!

I am currently breastfeeding my 3rd child. He is 11 months old and I have not gotten my period back yet. It is perfectly normal to not get your period back while breastfeeding. I got my period back with my first at 1 year and with my second at 10 months.
Enjoy it!
That being said, you still do have a chance of getting pg. If you feel like you could be, take a test.
Best of luck!

I had my baby 3 months ago, am breastfeeding and have only spotted. You should definately take a pregnancy test, just to be on the safe side. Someone told my mom that "You can't get pregnant while you are breastfeeding" I was 17 months old when my little brother was born. :)

Most of my friends who breastfeed got their periods back around eight or nine months. I got pregnant when my daughter was seven months so I never got mine back. Its very normal to not a have a period while you are nursing, I think most women get it back somewhere between six months and a year, but some don't have one until they stop nursing.

I breastfed my son for 2 1/2 years. And I didn't get my period for over a year and a half. Now I am pregnant again. :o) And I do plan to breastfeed until this child is ready to wean off of me.
