"I'm going to stay as long as I can," he said without elaborating on a departure date. Sources told CNN he may step down as early as next month.

Snow's comment caught White House colleagues by surprise, and they said they could not hazard a guess about when he might leave.

The 52-year-old Snow, the father of three children, earns $168,000 as an assistant to the president but made considerably more as a conservative pundit and syndicated talk-show host on Fox News Radio. He was named press secretary on April 26, 2006.

White House press secretaries in recent administrations have found the speechmaking circuit to be lucrative once they've stepped down. Snow was eagerly sought by Republican audiences before the elections last year, and in a break with tradition he made a number of fundraising speeches for GOP candidates.

The White House has been shaken by the resignations of some of President Bush 's closest aides. Political strategist Karl Rove announced Monday that he would leave at the end of the month. Others who have left since Democrats won control of Congress are counselor Dan Bartlett, chief White House attorney Harriet Miers, budget director Rob Portman, political director Sara Taylor, deputy national security adviser J.D. Crouch and Meghan O'Sullivan, another deputy national security adviser who worked on Iraq .

If not for the litany of law suits that dragged companies kicking and screaming into not endangering their workforce, we would still be working those conditions.

ABC News' Rick Klein Reports: Former Sen. John Edwards on Friday fired the latest round in his ongoing verbal feud with Ann Coulter, calling her a "she-devil" at a public event before quickly adding that he shouldn't engage in name-calling.

Edwards, D-N.C., was railing against the right-wing media -- including Fox News and Rush Limbaugh -- when he reminded a crowd in Burlington, Iowa, that his wife stood up to Coulter in a public spat earlier this summer.

Two Liberals are building a house. One of them is putting on the siding. He picks up a nail, hammers it in. Picks up another nail, and throws it away. Picks up a nail, hammers it in. Picks up another, and throws it away.

This goes on for a while, and finally his friend comes over and asks him why he is throwing half of the nails away. He replies, "Those ones were pointed on the wrong end." The buddy gets exasperated and says "You idiot, those are for the other side of the house!"

I think there are many wonderful things that have came about through political correctness. I think that groups of people in society who share something in common, be it a religion, a disability, or whatever, have the right to collectively decide if they want everyone to call them by a certain word or name.

Political correctness gets a bad name when small numbers of people decide for others what they should be called, or how they should be treated.

When people mock or criticise political correctness they tend to only bring up the worst examples.

What do you think?
