Right= monarchism, reactionsim, traditionalism, royalism, nationalism, orthodox and strict religious dogma, or the opposite of left
Left = anti-colonialism, green politics, Progressivism, and a more liberal religious beliefs.
Americans are all left wing compared to more extremist right-wing governments, which usually stand out as religious theocracies like Iran. Probably the reason terrorists usually list our more liberal cultural actions as evil.
But I agree, America has no ultra extreme left-wing politics.

Too many left wing luntics blaming bush for every society ill, and too many righwing lunitics blaming the other side for the same thing. Divide and conquer in Washington is how not to get things done. The state legislature will move on bills quickler than anybody can in washington, and that how the founding fathers wanted the system set up where goverment is closer to the people for things outside the bounds of federal govemrent. Democrats are shifting further left, and Republicans shifting further right in 2007 that just get base voters for nomination then its 20 yard dash to the political center that is how the game is always played its poltical system American sets up.

Left: Socially Liberal, more people than corporation. Far Left: Borderline socialists, just two pegs short of a Lenin mural.

hmmm well if you didn't like avail's answer, you aren't referring to American politics, you must be actually asking what type of government systems characterizes them in their more extreme forms.
If that is what you are asking....
Right = nationalism/fascism = exploitation
Left = socialism/communism = despotism
unless you are asking about the differences in economical philosophies of liberals and conservatives, in the 1700s. in which case:
conservative = moderate regulation of the economy
liberal = Laissez-faire approach to economy
which seems to have flip-flopped in the past 200 years.
or maybe you are speaking of the generalized tendency of them, where as :
right = reactionary
left = pacifism
which in reality, isn't real accurate.

I resent the Republican implication.
And you have it wrong. I am not rich, nor self-centered, nor am I lying scum.
And I am sure that Americans know the difference between right and left wingers. If you don't, then might I suggest some research on Google?

Those I know who call themselves 'real liberals' are in my opinion left-wing, as are all those clamoring for UHC. Any step away from capitalism and democracy as we know it, is one step too many.
"In politics, left-wing and the left, on the left-right political spectrum, is associated, in varying degrees, with social (as opposed to classical) liberalism, American liberalism, social democracy, socialism, communism, syndicalism, communalism, communitarianism, libertarian socialism, anarchism, left-libertarianism, some forms of populism, anti-colonialism, green politics, most forms of progressivism, and the Religious Left."

I believe there are more active left-wingers in this country right now than ever before though admittedly, they themselves don't even recognize the potential reaction to their actions.

I think you are confusing too many on the left wing on this.
If you asked them...who won the civil war...
they would tell you it was the West.
