US Govt. feel that they now have do whatever it takes to protect Israel even if it means that US national security isn't directly threatened? Should America today be paying for mistakes it made over 50 years ago & using US troops for the quick fix?

In the United States, we have what's been termed a "representative democracy". In theory, we elect representatives who represent our interests. In practice, this would seem to be something generally accepted to be false.

How is it possible for someone who's never met you in your entire life to represent your interests?

The far left would suggest that the UN send a very strongly worded letter to Tehran.
Those on the far right would want to invade Iran.

What would be a proper measured and proper response?

Does it really shock them that we have "free time"? On most weekends I help out at a local hospital just outside the Green zone and after duty I sit on my pathetic Laptop and send emails to friends and family and yes get into a pssing match with a few Libs on YA. A few weeks back I was on a lot as I had taken some Glass into the neck and leg from a nearby explosion. I understand the hate for GW but now are the same Libs that say they support the troops slowly turning against us too? fun is fun but is this the first salvo of a return to Vietnam style hatred? I hope not although I may reconsider wearing My uniform on leave next summer!

It wasn't called "The Democracy Bell" and Patrick Henry didn't say "Give me democracy or give me death". More importantly, one of the key founders and author of most of our most precious documents (including the Constitution) wrote breathtaking treatise upon the vileness of democracy and the glories of a republic in the Federalist Paper #10. I encourage you all to read it:

So why has the term "Democracy" supplanted "Republic" and "Liberty" in today's lexicon?

Seem to be asking questions that make them all pitch-men for the UN?

"How do we help UNICEF?" "How do we end world hunger?" "How do we make sure there are no more sick kids in the world?" "How do we eliminate world poverty?"

Even if you're a far-left liberal and are all about talking about these things ad infinitum, doesn't this one-track questioning get a little old? Doesn't it seem a little too heavy-handed? We should be all about helping our fellow man, but c'mon....

(And yes, this is a question...)

Our politicians lie through their teeth at every opportunity. They keep dreaming up more taxes and new ways of depriving us of our money. The banks charge unjustified fees and try to push us into buying useless insurance.
Is it actually possible to make a living these days without lying about something ?
A fine example our so-called leaders have set us.
What do you think ?

I mean, he did say sell all you have and give it to the poor, he did say to giveyour cloak also when someone asks for your coat. In fact, tin the book of acts, it says that all the Christians sold all they had and divided it among each other, as they had needs.

I am interested in general perceptions of the institution of the Scottish Parliament - from Scotland and beyond ? Is it useful or has it created divisions ? What do you think of its operation so far and what should it do in the future. How does it affect the UK generally.

All opinions welcome - do your worst!

I am sure that eventually we will have one country called Europe and each country will be a state. I am also sure that America is scared of this as they have already tried to stop the countries of the EU building a Eurpean army.

You have that right to express yourself without fear? That is what freedom here is for, we need to air our differences in order to find a common denominator don't we? If I don't like something because it is detrimental to my health than I will say so with the Free Speech act and proud of it too! I find most white upper middle class people to be too liberal and they dote on this bigotry thing and being an American Native I feel I have every right in the world here and then some considering some of the answers I have gotten, from ignorant people with their foot in their mouths! But the point is why not air our thoughts and differences and why should we be welcome mats for everyone like we are suppose to bend over for all these punks that want to destroy us?

The Greens were only standing by their beliefs when it came to the vote in the Scottish Parliament on whether or not to scrap the bridge tolls.
The question that still needs to be answered is why did the Labour and Lib Dem coalition decide to scrap the tolls on the Skye and the Erskine bridges but cannot do the same for the only two remaining toll bridges in the East of Scotland.
Double standards or West Coast bias?

Wouldn't it make sense for those who can afford their own private health insurance to be able to use a private provider, but those who cannot be allowed some sort of bare minimum coverage by the government? That seems like a win-win situation for everyone.
