I'm curious, say I was a doctor or an engineer (on civie street) and I was drafted (I'm in the UK, but I'm curious about the other countries too), does everyone join at the same rank (aside from the officer/non officers split)?

Or do you get given a token promotion to give you some authority?

After all the oil has been stolen by the American army in Iraq I am wondering where those criminals will set their greedy eyes next. Recently there has been natural gas and oil discovered off the west coast of Ireland. Will the US invade Ireland next and massacre Irish men and women on the streets like they did in Vietnam and are doing today in Iraq?

Some people say that snipers are only doing the job because it is away from danger.
I think they are gifted hunters, who are needed in every war.
I would like proper answers instead of you people who take the moral highground and will say things like"war is bad", i know this, i just want an answer to the question, thank you.

I'm doing a research based essay, and I'm having trouble decifing the actual numbers provided. For example, the army has a recruiting goal of about 80,000 every year, that it claims to meet. So does that mean that 80,000 people go to basic training every year, or does it mean that 80,000 people PASS basic training/ait and actually join the ranks of the enlisted. Also, what is the amount of people that LEAVE the army every year. I have yet to find a comprehensive website, or any website that answers these questions, so any help is apprieciated.

do the same?? Or don't they want to terrorize the Iraqis to control the violence there?? You would rather let the Iraqis die in the 100s daily than be caught terrorizing them like Saddam , is that it?? Forget about Abu gharib prison ..Anything other than Incompetency and Hypocrisy to describe Americans in Iraq?? Foolish and Arrogant is there , I think.

During his time , insurgents were not able to come to Iraq from Syria & Iran (?) to do their bombings. If it is Iraqis killing each other , why can't the americans control the law and order there?? In Saddam's time they were not killing each other like this. Saddam was able to have some kind of control over Iraq before. Now it is chaos. If the americans can't do a better job , why don't they just quit?? Are they staying there to provide target practice for the Iraqis??

My x- b/f is in the Army and he is so abusive. Not only him, but all of his Ranger buddies are the same way. I have JUST gotten out of this relationship, but don't understand this whole situation. I would think after they see some of the things they see when fighting for our country that they wouldn't take advantage like I see them doing. I have also heard that the stats on relationships with men in the Army that abuse is alot higher....please help...I love this man and I love our country, but what is our military teaching these guys? He has been at a training base now for 2 years!...as well as the other guys. It's not like they just got back from war!
