I'm sorry that you were in an abusive relationship and It's great that you got out safely. As someone who has served in our military, I can tell you that our military trains soldiers to KILL if necessary. This simple fact is one reason that your ex and many others like him will become aggressive. Unfortunately, this is an aspect of military life that is hard to separate from private life. These soldiers spend a lot of time working together as a unit, therefore, they become more like a pack working towards a common goal, which is to accomplish that goal with minimal casualties.
I only hope this simplified explanation can help you somehow.
God Bless and Best Wishes...

Military men? I've seen the same thing happen with a lot of men. It's often like dating a toddler. Seems there's always a period of them trying to find out how much you're willing to let them get away with. Unfortunately, there are far too many women willing to put up with just about anything for the sake of being in a relationship. That you say "...he is so abusive...: in one breath, then say "I love this man..." with the next makes you sound like one of them. The next time he does something you dislike, tell him, "I don't appreciate the way you're treating me. If you do anything like that to ma again I'M LEAVING YOU... regardless of how much I love you." Then stick with what you say. You'll find you'll never be in another abusive relationship ever again.

Men from all walks of life are physically and mentally abusive. Your boyfriend's abuse probably comes from childhood issues, and not the military. My husband is Active Duty Army and is currently deployed and has never laid a hand on me and has never abused me in any other way possible.
The military does not make men abusive. Some men are pre-dispositioned to abuse because of some kind of chemical inbalance in their brains or from some type of childhood trauma.

Do you find that CIVILIAN MEN are abusive physically and mentally? Guess what..miltary men came from the CIVILIAN SECTOR and kind, gentle and loving men are in the military also.
If your bf is abusive, he was that way BEFORE he joined. He has a twisted sense of treating women and now he thinks he's BAAAAD. Time to dump him before he REALLY hurts you.

abusive behavior is generally learned in childhood. maybe his military training just flipped a switch that was already there from previous experience (abusive family environment?).
my husband is in the military and has never once laid a hand on me or even threatened anything like that. if anything being in the military has taught him more control of his emotions.
sorry for your bad experience, they're not all jerks.

tell him to get a punching bag, and tell him to kick the s*it out of it for an hour a day, and if he touches you , physically or verbally, you will leave him. Period. If you try anything else, it won't work.
