I've been thinking about joining the military, and my recruiter says that many of your basic costs of living (food, housing, health care) are paid for in the military. I've also heard that many veterans leave the service completely broke, because they had so many unexpected cost while serving. What kind of costs would a single enlistee have to pay regularly, and how much money left over would he have?

I am studying WW2 history. Most history books say that Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor forced USA's entry in WW2. Historically correct. But there are some books that claim more than that. Those books (not many) say that Roosevelt had prior knowledge of that attack. US military intelligence were intercepting and reading coded Japanese military and diplomatic messages. Roosevelt was informed of Japanese plan of attack on Pearl Harbor. At the time, Congress, being isolationist is against US involvement in any war (only token materiel support to England). So Roosevelt intentionally witheld this information. Commanders in Hawaii were not given this knowledge either, and so no preparation was made by them. And so the Japanese attack happened without much resistance. The next day, Roosevelt gave his famous "Day of Infamy Speech" before Congress. From isolationist attitude, Congress now unanymously voted for declaration of war. So US was finally at war with Japan.

Your opinion about this?.

My bf has been talking to a recruiter about joining the marines. And he has asked me to go with him, and ask some questions as well. I have some idea of what i want to ask, i guess i just need some suggestions. Im proud of him wanting to go, but at the sametime, i dont want to miss him or worry about him. If it wasnt for the war i wouldnt be worried so much...

and when all those ranting protestors get together, we carpet bomb the **** out of them?
Then get all those military vehicles out of there and send in a thousand sniper teams. Any dude that comes out of his hut with an AK47 gets nailed. Have helicopters ready on call to lift the snipers from one place to another, when they've made a "hit" so as to not get spotted.
Everyone else goes home. We can keep that action going for fifty years. Practically no military casualites and no "innocent" civilain deaths. Also doesn't tear up property. We can even claim it is not us that's doing it.

We also could parachute in a new BMW for every adult Iraqi. Then put them to work building freeways. They couldn't get out and bomb things cause thy'ed be stuck in traffic.

Also, statistics show that people who drive new BMW's don't bomb stuff. What, some guy is going to make a car bomb out of his new BMW..forgetabout it.

We might spray all the protestors green, then t shoot green guys.

When Iraq attacked us on 9/11/01, we responded by going to war; we responded by going to wipe out the threat that presented itself to us. Now we've been pulling troops out, and trying to fight war fairly. War is not fair. So, should we send more troops overseas to end this war with less casualties for our troops; send them over so they could quite possibly be home sooner; send them over so we can sleep in peace at night?

At the outbreak of the Civil War, the US had an Army, but it was out west killing Indians. Whole new armies were created to fight the South, staffed with volunteers who joined just to fight the South. Could we do that now? Maybe someone wouldn't normally join the service, but wants revenge for 9/11; or someone would fight in Afghanistan, but not Iraq. Your thoughts and comments?

Right after World War2, tribunals (Nuremberg Trials & Tokyo War Crimes Trials) were established to prosecute those guilty of war crimes and atrocities commited during World War2. Within the framework of War Crimes cases is a category so called "Crimes Against Humanity". Both Germany and Japan were found guilty on that category of War Crimes. What is your opinion regarding the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombings. Should they have been considered as war crimes?. Apply clear and honest thinking and put aside biases. This is still very controversial issue.
