When I was remote overseas, lil things from home picked me up. If you still have one of those VCR things just stick the tape in and record a whole days of hometown TV, record the local radio station. Cookies, chocolates things that you can only find there....When you are over there the smallest things from home make you feel so much better.

Send him some Christmas cookies, candy a recording of family remarks, baby wipes, tooth brush and tooth paste. potato chips, popcorn, chap stick, skin cream. We have sent these to family members when they were in Iraq. Had 4 nephews over there at one time. They all liked the skin so soft from Avon, Kept the bugs away. They liked the baby wipes the best, they used them to clean their bodies and they wiped their guns and other items with them. One nephew said we could not send him enough. Don;t for get to send a card and a few lines from home. He won't get them by Christmas if you don't get them on their way. Good Luck.

Hi, I have a great idea..send him christmas in a box. Send him a fake tree rather small, christmas lights, ornaments, candy canes, chocolates, cookies, presents things he might like cd's of music maybe an ipod or video games if he is a gamer, a book he might like, maybe nice sheets with a high thread count or a nice comfy blanket. That way he can have christmas even if you are apart!

First of all I have to say, come on people, he is in Korea. He's not in Iraq. I served in Korea in the 90's and you can get anything you want over there. They have huge PX's and you can buy stereos, game boys, all kinds of games, pretty much anything you can buy in the states you can buy there. It would be nice to send him some homeade cookies, fudge or peanut brittle, if he likes that sort of stuff. Things that remind him of home are the best. Pictures of the family in a frame. Maybe record his fave football team playing and send it to him. Just little things that would let him know you haven't forgotten about him.
Good Luck.Tell him thanks for his service.

here is a great idea my husband is in iraq but see you can do this for anyone over there, do the 25 days of chrismas or 12 days or whatever, like one day cotton balls for snow, hott cocoa for warmth, lights for look, a chrismas cd for sound, and lol a pined tree air freshner for smell, things like that just send him something that will remind him of home for christmas theme,my husband says its the greatest gift i sent him because without being able to spend christmas with loved ones he can look at those things and be reminded... also about how much he is loved.you dont have to get him an expensive gift but if you insist then get him something like a ipod so that he can use that when he lifts weights or goes running so he can keep up on his pt stats.

first - hurry and get it out - i believe the deadline was monday but can't be 100% certian. here would be my additional thoughts - besides the food, mini Christmas tree....

make your own cookie kits or other holiday type things
freshly laundered twin sheets - just the flat sheet, not the fitted & pillow cases. wash them and use fairly heavy softner. if they are brand new - wash a few times to soften & then put a dryer sheet in between'
good socks - black ones preferrabally
sports stuff - baseball, frisbee, nerf football whichever he prefers
pictures - old and new of the family - maybe new ones with the family holding a sign saying - love you, miss you
"breakfast" - i sent my Marines: ready to eat bacon, mandarin oranges, peaches, cocktail bread and cheese & pates, french press coffee pot with starbucks (if they don't have access to a micro send the bottled coffees) summer sausage sticks. (now granted there is a thing about sending pork but.... my guys didn't seem to mind), orange & cranberry juice.
"football munchies" chips, salsa, con ceso, hot wing flavored pretzels -stuff like that
SAUCES - the guys get tired of the bland MRE's and they come with tobasco but - read hot sauce like Pete's or Lousinana, Tiger Sauce, any of those
cranberry sauce, applesauce and other ready to eat "i can doctor up my MRE's" type of things. get the smaller containers and don't forget a hand can opener
batteries
hand held fan
lip balm in fun flavors
hand sanitizer
q-tips! that sand gets everywhere
wash cloths!!! these were a HUGE hit. you can get a back of 30 for like $3. they don't have to be fancy - after a few washes they will use them on their guns and gear.

find out his shoe size and get some gel insoles!

use zip loc baggies to put the stuff in they can reuse them for their storage and such.
i also sent water guns and other stupid silly things - ooh playing cards

a hand written letter. doens't have to be anything but a written monologue - they really enjoy getting something they can take away and read

DVD's of some good movies and some stupid ones too - depending on hiss age - those from his HS years, even some of the old abbot and costello type ones -they guys got a kick out of them.

one last thing -- please send him my thanks and prayers letting him know that many of us (me included) truly appreciate all he is doing to keep me safe - as i always signed my letters -- please tell him - Stay Safe, Godspeed & God bless!!

nothing that melts, nothing pornographic, nothing combustible. most soldiers are happy with things like sunscreen, chap stick, beef jerky, etc....
