My BF is a logistical professional in the army. His assignment will start next year and be 12 months.

He told me most of the time he will be in highly secured military bases training the Iraq troops on that subject matter. He said he would only occasionally travel from one base to another, and that'll be the only time he may not be in contact for a couple of weeks. In all, since he's not in a combat unit so it's very safe.

"It's like you are in the Marketing and your boss will not ask you to program the IT system, because you are not trained to do so and you are not an IT professional." He joked as I work for corporate.

I know he's trying to do everything to make me less worried. But I also need to know the truth. Is he just comforting me? What are the chances to hit a roadside bomb or suicide bomb in the local market??

I want to be strong and be supportive to him but deep in my heart I am really freaked out! I wish I could go with him and live or die with him!

That amount of money works out to £ 3.33 per living human being! Rich or Homeless.
That will guarantee that every single person can have a meal for at the least 1 night (UK), ranging to months possibly??? in worse off countries! That’s at least 6 nights in South Africa, to give u an idea! I worked it out on 6 000 000 000 people divided by £20 000 000 000 Sad that it might actually be justifiable! I doubt it though. He's not over seas. He's off the coast of where he's stationed so I'm just wondering how long would it take for a package to get to him? How is the mail service in the service? I would like to time it so he gets the package the week of Christmas. Thanks for any help you can give me.

I think Robert Gates is going to be a vulnerable, vacillating, languid and spineless US Secretary of Defense! What do you think?

What would Iraq be today?
With Saddam still in power, would he have just chilled out, or continued to be a threat?
Saddam violated every aspect of the resolutions set forth by the UN.
Or would be balance of power between all parties (entire middle east), still be in check?

Is this close to a dishonorable discharge OR does this mean that their status can change to an honorable after 6 months? A family member of mine got that because he had alot of trouble with his surperios ex: company commander and he was placed in the wrong MOS his army recruiter somehow placed him in the wrong MOS (92 fox) when he was supposed to be in another MOS regarding satellite computers. Eventually, I think being in this situation got to him and he was discharged under a bad conduct discharge but yet his paperwork (DD214) says General with honorable conditions????? I'm confused. But anyways, what are the odds that he could boost it to an honorable. They told him to write the gerneral requesting an honorable in 6 months ---is this the norm? And if so what are the odds that he'd receive one?

Putting a that patriotic stuff, and that junk about honor and pride, (i got nothing against people joining the army) but would you join at this moment? knowing that the war is being mislead, and that chances of coming back home are small. does honor cost the price of human life? I know plenty of people waking up to the reality that it's not a good idea to join the army at this time.

Gates says U.S. is not winning Iraq war , AP Military Writer

WASHINGTON - Robert Gates, the White House choice to be the next defense secretary, conceded Tuesday that the United States is not winning the war in Iraq and warned that if that country is not stabilized in the next year or two it could lead to a "regional conflagration."

At the outset of his Senate confirmation hearing, Gates said he is open to new ideas about correcting the U.S. course in Iraq, which he said would be his highest priority if confirmed as expected.

Gates, 63, said he believes President Bush wants to see Iraq improve to the point where it can govern and defend itself, while seeking a new approach. "What we are now doing is not satisfactory," Gates said. We are losing.

"In my view, all options are on the table, in terms of how we address this problem in Iraq," he added.

Gates stated this is a very serious situation the USA is in. But we are losing the war.
