He's not over seas. He's off the coast of where he's stationed so I'm just wondering how long would it take for a package to get to him? How is the mail service in the service? I would like to time it so he gets the package the week of Christmas. Thanks for any help you can give me.

It all depends. The address should be an FPO one or something close too it. It has to get routed through New York City first. Then it goes to lets say Norfolk. Then from the main military mail place there, it gets sent to the smaller individual base. Then it gets put on a ship that will be going out to refuel, replenish, or drive close by, or it will be flown out via helicopter, desert duck, what ever you want to call it depending where he is. So long story short:

You to NYC - 2-3 days
NYC to US Base - 2-3 days (foriegn I can only assume 10-14)
Base to individual mail center - 2-4 days (maybe more with xmas)
Loaded together for shipping - 2-4 days
Helo/Ship holding before underway - 2-7 days
Rondevue (excuse the spelling) - 2-7 days

So you can be looking at a min of 12 working days and a max of 28 days with some international time if it has to go to an overseas base.

If he's just off the coast I would not worry too much. Now when I was mailing packages to hubby in Iraq that was a mess. He still received packages for two months after he returned home. I would get it mailed soon though just because of Xmas rush.

My BF is in Iraq and the notice I got from his commad said to send all Christmas packages before the 11th of December if you want it there on time. I don't see why your package would be any different.

depends on the ship he is on.. Carriers.. get mail pretty much daily. the rest of the Fleet: if it is with a carrier group, at least a couple times a week. if steaming on it's own, then when they get close enough for a land based plane to make a drop or when they pull up for UNREP. and that could be only once a week or so.

If you want him to get it the week of Christmas, I would mail it tomorrow. The MPS is slow and with the troops in Iraq it will make it worse.

It all depends on how you send it, where from and where to. I reccomend sending priority regardless. And ask the post office worker an estimated time.
