My BF is a logistical professional in the army. His assignment will start next year and be 12 months.

He told me most of the time he will be in highly secured military bases training the Iraq troops on that subject matter. He said he would only occasionally travel from one base to another, and that'll be the only time he may not be in contact for a couple of weeks. In all, since he's not in a combat unit so it's very safe.

"It's like you are in the Marketing and your boss will not ask you to program the IT system, because you are not trained to do so and you are not an IT professional." He joked as I work for corporate.

I know he's trying to do everything to make me less worried. But I also need to know the truth. Is he just comforting me? What are the chances to hit a roadside bomb or suicide bomb in the local market??

I want to be strong and be supportive to him but deep in my heart I am really freaked out! I wish I could go with him and live or die with him!

My brother is doing something similar to that right now in Iraq. He is a major in the U.S. Army. Your BF will be safe. Don't worry about him. Support him when he goes over, tell him you love him, and send e-mails, letters and packages when you can.

while traveling, he's at alot of risk from IED's, but otherwise his only concern would be getting infantry duty anyways. He used the Marketing/IT example, but the Army is notorious for using people to do things they weren't trained to do (e.g. Supply soldiers acting as infantry, or infantrymen driving trucks). He'll be ok though. As long as he's teaching them classroom kind of stuff, and not infantry tactics (i.e. something he might need to 'demonstrate' to them), no worries.

Support and Encourage that man with everything you've got!! Every person (even if it's only one) that he gets his message across to is one less American to be sacrificed for the same. Thank your Man from me for doing his part in this illegal occupation in the most noble form of deployment their is left to this war. Carl Levin(D) is the new Chair for his commission and I'm sure he will be put in the most safest of circumstances.

I see zero deaths for trainers in Iraq. When he is travelling there may be some issues, but otherwise he is much safer than most people there.
