Gates says U.S. is not winning Iraq war , AP Military Writer

WASHINGTON - Robert Gates, the White House choice to be the next defense secretary, conceded Tuesday that the United States is not winning the war in Iraq and warned that if that country is not stabilized in the next year or two it could lead to a "regional conflagration."

At the outset of his Senate confirmation hearing, Gates said he is open to new ideas about correcting the U.S. course in Iraq, which he said would be his highest priority if confirmed as expected.

Gates, 63, said he believes President Bush wants to see Iraq improve to the point where it can govern and defend itself, while seeking a new approach. "What we are now doing is not satisfactory," Gates said. We are losing.

"In my view, all options are on the table, in terms of how we address this problem in Iraq," he added.

Gates stated this is a very serious situation the USA is in. But we are losing the war.

Because this guy is a f'ucking genius!!!! If we had listened to him AND COLIN POWELL 3 years ago, we would have never gotten into IRAQ. Now he s talking a regional conflagration(read: WORLD WAR). Come on! Did I hear reports that Jordan and Saudi Arabia are worried about the security situation and how it WILL unstablize their countries. In addition, to being a Shi'a majority which they dont appear to like.
And notice how no one has mentioned Turkey?

more fabrications within the same article by the habitual liar named erudite..... again adding the fabricated parts to a copyrighted article (a violation of Yahoo answers rules as well as a violation of copyright law)...

Let's list the fabrications:
"Gates said. We are losing."
"Gates stated this is a very serious situation the USA is in. But we are losing the war."

In actuality... instead of the lie by erudite stating that Gates said we are losing the war... the ACTUAL statement is: "he believes the United States is neither winning nor losing, "at this point.""

Once again... eruide caught in one of his many lies and fabrications in order to change things to suit his little warped agenda... well erudite, many of us believe in a little thing called truth. Credibility is based on truth, and you sir have no credibility

The question is not 'why'. In fact the person is telling ground realities to American people, which has never been conveyed b4. That is one of the reasons of quiting of ex secretary of defense.
