Law Enforcement & Police - November 2006

I was stopped in the middle lane at a red traffic light. The two cops and the many SUVs and motorcycles came up from behind, took the right turn lane, and turned right. One of the cops went on to lead the procession, and one stayed back. When the light turned green, I went straight, and was immediately pulled over and given a ticket. This took place in Macon, GA. Do I have an obligation to "run" a red light in order to avoid inconveniencing a funeral? Also, there was no indication that it was a funeral. But the cops did have their lights on.

I got pulled over for going 72 in a 60, which was legit; unfortunately, the officer tacked on a no-signal lane change (a $75 fine in this lovely municipality) that was a complete load of crap, and I'm betting he knew it. Do I have any options?

I'm a college student at Fresno State University. I recently received a speedy ticket going home to California for the Thanksgiving holiday. I was pulled over for going 90mph in a 65mph. I explained to the officer that I was not aware of how fast I was going just that I was going with the flow of traffic. I also told him that I was going home to visit family. He told me, "Well, now you have a speeding ticket to take home with you". Do I have any chance in fighting this? If so,how? Thanks.

My husband was pulled over by the North Chicago Police Department IL. He didn't have the correct insurance card in the vehicle. He called me and I brought the right card. The North Chicago police towed impounded his vehicle. It costs 500.00 to get the vehicle out plus towing costs at 145.00 daily and 45.00 accrual daily.
In order to get the vehicle out we must pay the 500.00 in cash USD .
Does this seem legal?
He was speeding by the way. Which I accept and he accepts.

I already know the answer, but I'm interested in knowing if others know what the difference is! I have a degree in Criminology, Law and Society, I'm a police cadet and I'm applying to law school right now, so that's why I have sooo much interest in this kinda stuff!

The opposing insurance company claims that my father is 50% liable because he was going too fast 5-10 mph (yes... he was splitting between the parked cars and the cars waiting for the light) He was planning to turn right at the light which was approx 150 to 200 feet away from the parked car that's door hit my father's leg. He flew 20 off of his motorcycle and broke 9 ribs not to mention his broken leg from the impact with the door. My main question is with regards to the liability, as far as I know you always have to check for a bicycle or another car before opening a door. What is the law with regards to splitting traffic on a motorcycle, specifically when your intent is to turn right at an upcoming street?

Thanx for the help!

a few days ago I was waiting at a local pizza parlor with some friends, deciding what we wanted to eat. A cruiser then pulls up behind us, and the officer gets out, asks for my license, and continues to walk around my vehicle asking questions. Not sure what I did wrong, and concidering we were on private property (commercial), how he could even do this. Was this search of my vehicle legal?

I was wondering if playing your music too loud in your car is considered a moving or non-moving violation? My boyfriend just got a ticket for it and I'm worried he will lose his lisence because it is his third ticket (1 for music, 1 for speeding and 1 for a fender bender) He did lose his lisence for 6 months for the first 2 and if he gets another moving violation I'm pretty sure he'll lose it again so if there is anyone who know's what a ticket for loud music is considered (moving or non) that would be great. Thank you!!!!!

I received a ticket in Florida for passing a school bus. My view is that it was "entrapment" for lack of a better word. I was in heavy traffic in north bound lane of a 4-lane, 2-way street that is separated by a wide turning lane. From a distance, I spotted 3 sheriff's deputy cars parked at angles in the turning lane and I slowed to a crawl. I thought I was coming up on an accident and would soon see a deputy waving traffic out of the way. Not wanting to hit a cop, I kept my eye straight on the police cars. When I finally made it past them and saw through the traffic that there was not an accident, the police cars did U turns and pulled me and someone else over. I never even saw the bus that he said was stopped in the far opposite southbound lane. I know to stop for a school bus, but the deputies created a distraction in the center lane, and I never looked away from them. It was rush hour, 4pm; not the time schools let out here. I have no other tickets on my record, ever.

We were just wondering if midgets who commited crimes went to regular prison, or is there a special prison for them. You know, so they would be safer from the big guys? AND no, we are not some freaks, we were just watching the movie Willow which is chock full of them..Then next thing you know we are watching movie The Rundown last night and this midget ran out of the bar and it started us on a questioning of things about midgets. SOOOO if you have an actual answer and not just some freaky comment like "sure didn't you watch Penetentury" or something like that, please let us know. Also, if you know where this midget prison might be?
