I'm a law student intern for a juvenile court. Our county has tons of oustanding court costs/fines/fees from juveniles. I've been researching Lexis/Westlaw for a couple of weeks with no luck.
1)can parents be held responsible for their minor child's financial orders/judgments?
2) Or, must the parents be ordered to pay fines/costs?
3) If so, must that order be made specifically at the time of the hearing or can it be made later as a method of recovery?

I'm looking specifically for Ohio law but will take anything at this point. I have found alot of info regarding parental responsibility in regard to restitution, detention costs but nothing specially (caselaw, statute) as to whether this extends for court fees. Would adding a disclaimer/signature area to a payment plan for juveniles that parents would sign assuming responsibility hold up under the law since contracts typically aren't enforceable against minors? Any help is appreciated.

I had three felonies that were dropped down to misdemeanors after complettion of my propation. I never violated probation and have had a clean record except these and no trouble with the law ever since. Any and all information helpful.. I am in Minnesota and I am sure each state is different, but an idea of the process will help.

Nobody's totally Liberal. Nobody's totally Conservative. What makes you decide to step on either side of the line, and why is it so hard for anyone to make the trek across? Why are values used as a sole purpose for the left vs right fight? I have mostly Liberal values. Mostly, not all. Just because an animal has wings and a beak, doesn't make it a falcon.

I got 2 felonies several years ago, and they were expunged from my record. Now they are showing up when I get pulled over and when I apply for an apt. I did everything the court asked of me on time. My attorney said that there must be a loophole somewhere and my info got leaked out. Now when anyone pulls up my record, it looks like I still have these charges. My lawyer has suppose to been working on getting this resolved for about a year now and he hasnt shown me any results. Is there any group or organization that can help fix this?

For all of you who don't know, gay men and women who have had sex with gay men are banned from giving blood. Women are only banned for 12 months, but gay men are banned indefinitely.
I am currently writing the FDA to complain about the discrimination facing gay men so if anyone has any resources to help, it would be appreciated. I would encourage you to write the FDA as well. Any resources/law material would be very helpful!

Let's say you have someone in the car with you who, by the off chance, is seriously injured and maybe even close to death or the all time clichéd pregnant woman in the car.. Which laws will allow you to go faster than the advised speed limit, is it different in other states? What is the threshold between priority and safety of other people sharing the road?

Let me put my cards on the table: I am a lazy good for nothing waster. But it,s not my fault!
My Father was lazy as was his father before him.
It's in my genes.
Why is it that when I apply for ajob ,and honestly inform my future employer that I am a lazy bastard ,I am turned down for the position?
If I keep my constant state of idleness secret I get the job but I find myself being kicked out of the door within hours.
Today in Britain a new law is on the statute book that makes it illegal for an employer to turn down an applicant because the may consider him or her to be too old.
We also have similar laws regarding racism ,sexism and homophobia.
Why is it that lazy people get no support from anyone?
Doing any sort of hard work makes me tired and the next morning my muscles ache.
My body tells me that It isn't right for me.
Please, will someome help me start a campaign . Lets make it illegal to discriminate against lazy people.
KICK LAZYIZM OUT OF THE WORKPLACE

or is it more ethical than giving people these jobs because they are creditors of the said politician?
The Irish Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has admitted that he appointed people who gave him money as interest-free loan to state bodies, but he said in a TV interview that he appointed them "because they were friends".

I feel like the President should be held accountable, if the public doesn't approve of his actions. Saying one thing in his campaign, and doing another is telling a lie. What about lie detector test? Shouldn't some form of forcing him to do what he says he will do be applied to his position? Would it be different than any employee taking a drug test? How much should he be allowed to get away with without concrete proof he is telling the truth? Isn't there too much hid from the public in the name of national security? Shouldn't the public have a right to make sure he isn't telling us lies? The current watch dog system, does it really work?

Maybe yu don't know, but the USA senators have apppoved a law for turturing strangers in the USA land. I suppose that G.W.B. will sign it up (approve, I mean).

Aren't you guys, in certain sense, returning to medieval ages? Turture in 2006? That's crazy! And more: in a civilized country. First, how many of you knew this I'm talking about? I think you do bc you here are well informed. But the majority of US people don't, I guess.

Torture is against Christian ethics. For sure.

Our neighbours (the council!) want to build right up to our wall making a new party wall. Our wall has got some vents and air bricks that there surveyor says should not be there and want to see permission for them. We can't find the original plans from 20 years ago. Don't we have some rights because they have been there for so long?

We want to know the name of my mother-in-law's father. She will not tell us his name. Mom went by an alias when growing up. We were able to find out the last name, but not the first. She slipped one evening and said it out loud. Can we get an official birth certificate from the state even though she is still living and without her knowledge. At this point I have no idea how to get his name if nobody will talk about it. It's NOT a common name so once we get a first name, it should not take long to track down family members who might have known him. We are assuming he's died by now.
We mainly want to do this for medical history but she still refuses to budge on this issue......Apparently he was in the mafia and everything relating to him should be kept a family secret.

At a later stage how can a WIFE turn back and yell "...........eeek I have been raped by my husband". Doesn't that look comic? At the most the husband may be punished for assault or cruelty towards his wife. But, how can it amount to RAPE by any standards?
Otherwise every sexual act after having a good drink and dinner could be termed as RAPE!! I'll give you an instance. Husband and Wife are sleeping together on their wedding anniversary and the man gets the urge to have sex. The woman says no as she is having periods. The man says doesn't mind and has his will. The woman doesn't protest but later on goes to police an files a complanit of RAPE against her husband saying that she never gave concent for the sex and the husband aught to be punished for RAPE i.e., seven years of prison term. WHAT THE HELL... IN WHICH JUSTICE SYSTEM ARE WE LIVING?

The Yanks are re-considering their stance ("legitimate" use of torture) because (a) international outrage upsets the poor dears (b) (and much more important, and as every regime that has used torture well knows) if you use torture to try to elicit a response, the victim will tell you pretty much anything - true or false - that he thinks you might want to hear. The information gained is generally thought (and sorry can't quote, but know I've read this many times in "good" sources) to be pretty much unreliable, 'cos the torturers know that they are hearing what their victim thinks they want to hear. So it's all pretty fruitless. Equating what "they" do to what we should do is degenerate if what "they" do is less sophisticated than what "we" do. Overall good treatment is not "soft", merely civilised, and as, if not more, productive of good information than torture.
