A murderer is condemned to death. He has to choose between three rooms. The first is full of raging fires, the second is full of assassins with loaded guns, and the third is full of lions that haven't eaten in 3 years. Which room is safest for him? Why?

OK, I want to move to England and be a lawyer when I graduate, but I'm not totally sure just how the Uk court system works. Could someone give me an explanation, and give me a rough idea of how much they get paid. And does the Royal Family have a lawyer???

People are saying that Jessica's law is too broad and will be challenged (appealed) as soon as it passes. If it is challenged will the law be put on hold until the courts make a final ruling or does it take effect right away regardless of any challenges, appeals, etc?

Of course, everybody heard of non-discrimination and equal opportunity based on sex, nationality, religion, race and so on. But do you know if employers can discriminate based on criminal background even though the crime cummited or the circumstances under which it was commited have no bearing on the persons ability to do the job?

Laws pertaining to this question can be from any U.S. state, but direct relevance to New Jersey law would be appreciated.

A short while ago, I was sexually harassed by a co-worker at my job. I followed the protocol and "chain of command" as far as filing a claim. It has almost been a month and the only thing my employer has done is kept us on seperate shifts, which has caused me to lose days on my paycheck. I've been considering filing for unemployment because harassment is one of the three factors that entitles a person to receive unemployment. I'm very uncomfortable working at this establishment and my performance has also suffered. What should I do? Please Help!

I think some companies that are trying not to discriminate against minorities or women are actually discriminating against white males. They have certain quotas to make by hiring a certain amount of blacks and women. for instance, for every white man they hire they have to hire 2 women or 3 blacks. Don't get the wrong idea. this isn't a question based on racism or sexism, this is just a question asking if you think by trying not to discriminate against minorities and women they are discriminating against white men who may or may not be well qualified to handle the job they apply for. but above all I think the most qualified person should get the job.

Instead of executing a murderer for his crimes, wouldn't it be better if that felon was made to work a life sentence or more in order to support (financially) the families of the victims???? After all, if the hard-working father of a family of three were to be murdered, then his family has no way of getting any form of compensation or money in order to survive...Instead, the government kills the murderer and considers this justice, whereas the victims are not helped at all for the financial hardship they have to endure due to the tragedy. Maybe making the murderer "pay for his crime" literally would be better and justice would truly be served....

A co-worker of mine is the defendant in a small claims court case in Florida. She lost the case and was ordered to fill out an information sheet where she has to disclose all her personal info to the plaintiff. She did as instructed and received a "Order to Show Cause." The plaintiff is stating that she did not provide him with all the information. The Order to Show Cause order said that she needed to be at the hearing to show cause why she did not comply with the order. My friend is terrified that they are going to find her in contempt and put her in jail. She has never been in trouble in her life. She was told by different people that she could be held in contempt. She came to me for advice and I googled like crazy but nothing I could understand. Does anyone know what is the liklihood of her being found in contempt and jailed for a small claims case? I did look over the copy of the papers she sent to the plaintiff and they seemed complete to me..Any Advice?

I was fired on 4/11 for being absent from work. I had received a written warning, but the policy stated suspension after a written warning. I never was suspended, just fired. I never received my accrued vacation time or any severance pay as this was my supervisors decision. (Hospital policy was the supervisor decided about this). I had reported my supervisor for inappropriate behavior. I also had FML time because of my daughter having a behavior disorder and in a special school. Some of the absences were not put under this (as they should have been). I only now have found a job (7/14) after unsuccessfully trying for 3 months. Funny thing, I told a former co-worker and she told me my supervisor had just been fired that week that I found a job. Sounds fishy. How can I find out if he was blackballing me? Can I do anything?
