Government - April 2007

[Selected]: All categories Politics & Government Government

A republic is the highest form of government devised by man, but it also requires the greatest amount of human care and maintenance. If neglected, it can deteriorate into a variety of lesser forms, including a democracy (a government conducted by popular feeling); anarchy (a system in which each person determines his own rules and standards); oligarchy (a government run by a small council or a group of elite individuals): or dictatorship (a government run by a single individual). As John Adams explained:
[D]emocracy will soon degenerate into an anarchy; such an anarchy that every man will do what is right in his own eyes and no man's life or property or reputation or liberty will be secure, and every one of these will soon mould itself into a system of subordination of all the moral virtues and intellectual abilities, all the powers of wealth, beauty, wit, and science, to the wanton pleasures, the capricious will, and the execrable [abominable] cruelty of one or a very few.20

It's a good thing they are not like Hitler. Did you know that George Bush fears that North Korea might be making nuclear weapons. I just found out at school, and the bad part is that North Korea is ruled by a dictator. Why would they wan't nuclear weapons?

I know i will get little sympathy, but i believed I am an overlooked part of the population. I grew up very poor, worked hard got an education, now make 150k per year. My wife and I have no kids. Guess how much in taxes I pay? My hard work is penalized. % wise, i am footing quite a bit more than someone who does not want to better themself. it stinks...

I constantly hear people saying other minorities need to get off welfare. I would like to know if there is a publication that shows where the welfare resides based on ethnicity or even gender.

come after us". Play it again Sam.....I mean Tony!! Everyone knows about Labour lies. It has been our security services that have stopped all but two attacks and it will be their abalities and decent immigration control that will protect us in the future. The troops in Iraq are there because a megalomanic Prime minister wanted it that way, isn't that the truth?

To build a bollard to stop a rat run it needs the Borough Council to apply to County Council; whom apply to Central Government in Westminster, there it travels through the various departments until it reaches the one that makes the decision, and it goes eventually goes back to the department that informs County Council to report their final decision to the Borough Council. In the case of the bollard in my town it took 18 months!!!!!
How much money could have been saved had Borough Council been able to make it's own decision?????

It cannot be documented by anyone that the Dept of Homeland Security has saved any lives. Even one.
And it just might be that FEMA, part of the Dept let a lot of people die. Has it really made America more secure? Probably in some small measure by diminishing Constitutional rights, like the 1st and 5th Amendments..

Seems to me that FOR THE SAME MONEY/COST a Dept of Healthcare would have saved thousands of lives and improved the lives and security of millions of Americans in the last 5 years.

What do you think and why?

I always hear Republicans complain about taxes, but where else do they think we'll get the money to pay for roads and schools and our military? Bush's idea has been to cut taxes and borrow money from, of all places, China, which will have to be paid back with interest. He also has expanded the government at a faster rate than any of his predecessors . I thought conservatives were responsible with money? What gives?

Hi! well im canadian so i wouldn't know alot on this subject. for the things i know, i'd say Bush is an alright guy. but again im canadian and im probably missing out 90% of the whole story. I mean what he did after 9/11, isn't that alright? And i think sending troops into Iraq is ok. America is over run by the minority. Just because you see a couple hundred people are holding up signs infront of the white house is shown on T.V., all of America thinks the other way. Stop being such a hippie, strap on a helmet. Is it really a good idea to withdraw the troops from Iraq? Take a look at what happened to Vietnam. As you can see im very comfumbled about the situation. OPINIONS PLEASE!

In my opinion the Democrats are finally smartening up. They've had enough of Bush and his delusional lies, torture, spying on Americans, brutal bloody unjust invasions.

And the GOP rubberstamp Congressmen & Senators who survived the last election (some thru US Attorney misconduct?) can go on record supporting Bush and refusing to vote for this bill or over-ride his veto.

And those neokons out there in yahooanswers-land who don't allow email. I judt as soon you didn't answer. If you haven't the guts to stand up for what you say you're worse than the GOP Congress cartel..
