Government - April 2007

[Selected]: All categories Politics & Government Government

I have just visited the "Politics and Government" section, and the same questions asked in the Yahoo!America site are just repeated in the Yahoo!Canada site. I'm sure a lot of Canadians out there want a true Canadian forum, too, or am I the only one? We like to complain just as much as anybody!

What would you change about our government. Like if you were elected president what laws would you make, or change. No dumb laws like legalize pot. Id like to hear some real things that people would like changed here.

The reason he is doing that fake cry because It worked last time he cried after 9/11 and his approval ratings went up sky high! Does anyone else feel that Bush is being manipulative and desperate here?

I was relieved to read the Supreme Court is not entirely in Bush's back pocket:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070402/ap_on_go_su_co/scotus_greenhouse_gases

"The Supreme Court ordered the federal government on Monday to take a fresh look at regulating carbon dioxide emissions from cars, a rebuke to Bush administration policy on global warming."

I am conducting a survey for my AP US History class that will be used to determine the general opinion of the populace towards the events that unfolded regarding the Nixon Watergate Scandal. Participants are asked to be at least of the years 50+ and have some sort of first-hand opinions towards the questions. I don't have easy access to first-hand knowledge.
1. What do you remember most about Nixon's presidency?
2. When Watergate first surfaced did you believe it was true? Why?
3. How did you react when you heard the evidence against Nixon?
4. What role do you think the media had in the Watergate affair?
5. How did you feel about Nixon's resignation?
6. What do you think would have happened if Nixon hadn't resigned?
7. How politically active were you in the 70s?
8. What did you think of Nixon Prior to the Watergate Scandal?
9. Explain how your view of Nixon changed or didn't change after the Watergate scandal.
10. Can you compare the Watergate scandal to anything recently?
Thanks.

Where to even start? When did she become Secretary of State? Who's paying for this trip of hers and how is this her job to talk with world leaders? Is she making policy for us we other countries? Is she laying down ultimatums? Who gave her the permission to spend our money to go on this trip for what ever reason? She is the Rep. of the 8th dist. of California and OK the speaker of the house, but how is anything she is doing over there her job? You know, you all that seem very diligent in defending these folks in the House and Senate better seriously get your heads out of the sand. For all the bitching that has gone on about scandal this and scandal that or "they are walking over the constitution" rhetoric we keep hearing! It seems to me your worries are misdirected. The Dems are making some very scary moves right now and it seems to be them (the Dems- House and Senate) that are trying to change not only the constitution but are structure of government. Where is your separation/powers?

Why do you think we haven't admitted anymore states into the United States. There are many candiates for the position of 51st state, however none have admitted. What do you think is the hold-up on statehood for DC, Puerto Rico, or the other territories and possessions of the United States. What territory do you think has the highest chances of being admitted first.

As a Second Question, what are the current laws or protocols that would govern the admittance of a new state.

The initial justification was the pressence of WMD in Iraq. Now that was proven to be bull, the next justification was because Saddam was a bad guy. Is that justification really good enough? Then after "winning" the war, America persisted in establishing a democrary. Do you really think that is wise? Why do Americans think that once a democracy is established in that manner, peace and progress will follow? Don't they know that for democracy to work, the population must be ready for it? Do you really think that the Iraqis are ready for democracy?

I don't know about whether it'd be illegal or legal or not, but... am I able to mail 2 cans of easy cheese? I've done it before, but I've always lied and said it was something else. I want to mail 2 cans of it to my boyfriend for Easter. He loves it, but he lives in Wales, UK currently and they don't have it there. I would be so happy if I could surprise him with it. Let me know please!

If I'm not able to tell the truth and mail it, I'm still mailing it, so any suggestions on what I can say it is? :P
