I have never met a conservative sociologist
or a liberal economist.
I must admit that i have been around hundreds of sociologists and only a few economists but it is the norm, i gather.

Economists look at the bottom line (money)
sociologists look at the happiness of the people.

Americans are rich and unhappy
judging by the suicide and depression rates

How many of you would shed a tear for President Bush? If not, how come?

Most people have at least basic cable, so I'm wondering, how many people have actually sat and watched at least one round of questions on any Presidential debate since they've begun this year?
If you haven't, why not?
I haven't. Of course I don't have basic cable either. If I did, I still don't think I would. Questions aren't answered in a debate, either due to time constraints, or because no one wants to go out on a limb and put forth an answer that might make it seem like they have a stand on something. And as I understand it, the "real" questions weren't picked, only the ones that proved entertaining to the viewing audience.
What's your opinion of the debates? If you watched them were they a waste of time? If you didn't, do you feel you missed out on something relevant?

So I took the ASVAB practice test and made a 14.. the recruiter said I need to make at least a 50 for most jobs .. I have a month to study... arithmetic, word knowledge, and reading comprehension. It's kind difficult because I would have to learn every single thing about all of that because I don't know exactly what kind of math problems, or exactly what kind of definitions.. any advice?

I live in an apartment building and on one side of the building are two sets of row houses. There is a family who lives in one of the row houses with 3 children. The parents do not watch the children when they go outside to play. The two older boys are both bullies and the oldest girl bosses everyone around because she is left to be a mother to the boys. It is difficult for me to let my 8 year old girl go outside to play (there is a large backyard to the building) because these boys are constantly bullying her. Efforts have been made by managment to make these children stay in their own yard, but because the mother does not enforce any rules the children do not listen. I want my daughter to be able to go outside and play without me having to be out there every minute. Is there anything I can do about these children?

I live in work in Atlanta GA. I work in a big office complex and basically the only two businesses in our building are a Dr.'s office and my place of employment, a reserach lab. Neither of our bathrooms are handicapp accessible nor do we have handicapp parking. It makes me sick to my stomache to see people getting out of their wheelchairs struggling to go into the bathroom or even worse Ive seen Patients mess themselves because the bathrooms are not wheelchair accessible. I've complained verbally and in writing to the building owner and property manager and they say that their property is under some Grandfather clause that allows them to legally not have to accomadate handicapp people. I really don't believe this is true but my question is what agencies can I contact in order to find out our rights as tenants? My Mom actually owns the research company I work for so I make most of the repair requests and the owner ALWAYS ignores them. Who can I call for help with a slum lord?

As the presidential indescretions are in some way equal?
How are they able to do that with a straight face?
lol it just blows my mind how they turn marital indeiscretion into a worse world crisis than Iraq, afghan and possibly Iran/Russia.

Personally, I am moderate on the issue, but for those who really get their panties in a twist, wouldn't it be a self-correcting problem? Liberals / lefties / progressives / democrats are far and away the primary customer base for abortion clinics. What other herd thins itself?

would take patrons' orders in English, speak to patrons in English and then turn around and speak to each other in a foreign language. This was done over and over in the middle of a crowded resraunt.
I understood the language, nothing wrong was said but others around me were a bit upset and had opinions that ranged from, "what are they saying to each other ...is it about us?" to "why do these people speak to us in Our language and then to each other, apparently in their own language? It makes me feel like they are discriminating against those of us who are partrons." Several of our group did not want to tip these people as they felt disrespected.
What do you think/feel about this and how should these employee folks behave. Is their activity appropriate?

My notes say that the prohibition of compulsion of the 5th amendment right against self-incriminating statements does not stop revoking ones license for failure to take breath test.

is a breath test the type of "testimonial" evidence the 5th seeks to protect? I guess I am confused as to why the state can force breath test:

Is it legal because it is not testimonial?

or

Is it legal because the threat of losing ones license is not considered "compelling" under the 5th?
