are you about to ETS? you should be given the opportunity to take the Transitions class, although that could be problematic if you are deployed. you really should start the process no later than 9 months out from PRD.

If at all possible, you should try to cross train into the firefighter MOS. Once your enlistment is up, get out and try to get picked up by a fire department. You DO NOT want to get a dishonorable discharge, otherwise, you will never work for another government entity for the rest of your life.

Are you trying to get out of the Army or is your time up in the Army. If it is the latter of the two then go to your hometown city office and check with them...If you are TRYING to get out and become a firefighter, forget about it, because you have to show trustworthiness and loyalty...If you quit one thing, then they will see that as you are not dependable and WON'T hire you.

Look on USAJOBS and CPOL websites. They are good government websites for jobs. Because your still in, you'll have to wait to ETS but you can still apply while your in. If your ETS is not too far out, say three or four months, you have a good shot a something.
Good luck

Getting a position as a fire fighter, is a hard thing to do.
In most towns, it is political, as in who you know.
In larger cities, you will have to take their civil service fire fighter test, and then it will be based on what your score was, some cities will give bonus points to veterans, some don't.

Most departments are loathe to accept someone like you into the department. By "like you" I mean someone who is incapable of understanding the importance of accepting responsibility for your actions. They are also unlikely to accept you if your DD214 says anything less than honorable with an RE1.
