I am considering a job with Huntington Learning Center.
As a condition of my employment, I have to submit to a criminal background check. I'm not opposed to that at all.

However, the HR person told me that I would have to pay for it, to which I replied "That's a business cost of Huntington Learning Center - It is not my responsibility".

What's the law on this? Any thoughts?

My fiance's company is letting a few people go because there is no work and the company may be going under. In the next few months, either the company will go bankrupt and close or they'll want to hire him back when they get more jobs (He's an electrician).

We're unsure if they are "officially" laying him off or if they are just putting him on "stand by" and telling him not to come to work for a few months. Regardless, can he collect unemployment benefits until he can find another job, even if it's temporary? If the company is flat out broke, who will pay for the benefits or will he not qualify on the grounds that there's no money to pay him?

I have heard of corporate censorship on yahoo, and more then likely they will delete this question, but before they do what are your thoughts on yahoo’s support of this tyrannical regime and implications of yahoo’s own corporate censorship?

There are huge double standards in our country. If we're going to put footbaths in our schools for Muslim students(minnesota) we should be able to put the Ten Commandments in front of our courthouses. Do you agree or disagree?

I was coming home from work monday night and witnessed a very bad accident. The woman in the story (below) recklessly blew through a red light doing atleast 60-65 mph and blind sided a car.I called 911 and was the first person to approach the poor woman who was blind sided. She was in bad shape and I knew she was not going to make it.It was very troublesome to witness it and even more troubling that I knew I could do nothing for her. The woman who blew through the light with total disregard is being charged with vehicular homicide. What kind of sentence is probable in this situation? It happened in New Jersey.

My husband answered an ad to buy a car. He went to go and see the car and got the man to agree to a price (the ad said the man was an individual, turns out he is a car dealer).

My husband went back to work and called me to discuss whether we had the cash to buy the car ... we did. So he calls the guy up and says yeah, we have the cash, can we make a deal today? The guy says sure. My husband then says okay, bring the title, a receipt for the cash and the car and I'll bring the cash.

The man says welllll, he doesn't have the title, he has to get it from the dealership he bought it from, once he pays them for it. Says it will be about a week. He claims he works for consignment, that they release used cars to him to sell. Says we can call the "wholesale manager" at the dealership and confirm. Since my husband is a mechanic and knows the folks at this particular dealership, he asks the guy "then what's the name of the general sales manager" (even though he already knows) and

My aunt has an out of state WARRANT, she got a DUI in a little town in North Carolina three years ago while visiting a friend. She swears to God, she wasn't drunk & I believe her. She is just not that big of a drinker. She did get a DUI when she was 18 yrs old over 22 years ago, so that is on her record.

They threw her in jail... she got her butt kicked by other inmates who kept calling her "california white girl" & they kept intentionally bumping into her and then punching her in the face saying she bumped into them. (When I saw her a week later, she looked like she got hit by a truck). When she finally got around to getting a court appointed attorney, the attorney he got her out OR, then advised her to plead guilty, said that it would be 'timed served", so she did what he suggested.... next thing the judge ruled "2 years" in jail & for my aunt to report to jail on a certain date. She never reported to jail... & I am sure has a WARRANT in No Carolina.

What can she do?

By George! let's see the caskets of almost 4000 of our troops and about a million Iraqi's killed, grief stricken survivors and victims and bereaved families of soldiers, brain injuries, amputees, a huge growing debt in the trillions deferred for our children and grandchildren to pay, a draft to supply the needed troops so repeat tours aren't needed. For what? How bad can it get before the people demand the troops be brought responsibly home, IMPEACHMENT. ENOUGH! Stop the self proclaimed deciders and let the majority of this democracy rule! One nation, divided, with torture, spying, wire tapping, raiding of the U.S. treasury by the military & greedy corporate industrial complex, and injustice and no bid contracts for all croneys and Bush loyalists! Remember the Boston Tea Party? Where's the people's representation in Congress? Take your sign to the streets. Write your congresspersons.Let the buck charge King George, "commander in chief". Let's have some accountability for a CHANGE!

I know someone who just got kicked out by her roommate and now has no place to go. She is still not discharged from the military and has only been home from Iraq for 4 months. She's been over there twice already. I unfortunately cannot take her in. Is there someone she can contact or someone that can help her?
