I will be turning 18 and graduating high school this year, but I am at a bit of a cross road. Firstly, I don't really have the money for college, and due to a bit of a slump I went through my sophomore year my GPA is in the toilet. I don't have a lot of work experience, so the only job I'd likely be able to get would be minimun wage. I know joining the army would give me a lot of training, help with college, and be an overall good learning experience, but I am a bit concerned.

If you enlist in a non-combat position (like a Animal Care Specialist) can they force you into combat? Once your enlisted, can they put you in whatever position they want?

Any other information/advice you could impart would be incredible, I am really conflicted.

I get have two pay periods a month (from the 1st to the 15th and from the 16th to the 31st). The problem is this: For my first paycheck I was paid 1560. If I figured it out hour for hour though and it would come out to be 1728. 1992 - 1728 = 264 dollars. In theory, if a person works long enough it would all even out in the end. The company is being sold in Februrary and I have calculated that I will never recoup that money. The accounting department acknowledged the problem, but they shrugged it off. Do I have any legal recourse in this situation?

BTW, In the the hiring negotiations we discussed a dollar wage, not a yearly salary. Also, I am just a little peeved that this sort of sloppy accounting is going on in the 21st century with computers that can figure out complex wage equations in seconds.

I understand we have representatives(electoral college) we elect that actually vote for the President and Vice President. Last night, someone posted a question, "Do our votes really count during election time?" A posters response was no. I disagreed with the poster saying that our "popular votes" directly influence the "electoral votes."

While the vote on a short ballot does not technically count(as in actually electing a Pres. or VP), except in the case of the '04 election, the popular vote is a direct influence on the electoral vote.

Agree or disagree?

I've read several question over the last couple of weeks about Katrina and its effects on New Orleans.

Here is my question. If Katrina destroyed New Orleans then why didn't Florida get destroyed 11 times? Why wasn't there the same public out cry 11 times? It stands to reason that Katrina was not the culprit here. So what was?

If it wasn't the storm that hurt New Orleans severely then what was it? What actually put the people of New Orleans in harms way? Could it be the economic mind set and desisions of the welfare state set up in Loisiana? Could that be the difference? Could that be the problem?

Or could it be, as Kanye West put it, "George Bush hates black people"?

abandon the rule of law and accede to Mexico's inherent supremacy .In his state of the union address to the Mexican nation, Calderon said that Mexico does not stop at its border, that wherever there is a Mexican, there is Mexico.

What are your feelings on this statement?

I'm currently in the Air Force and they prescribe anti-depressants. I'm interested in getting a prescription but I'm extremely worried it will affect my career when reenlistment comes around or even get me discharged. I mainly want a prescription because I experience anxiety and find it very hard to concentrate mentally in a social/work environment.

Normally, I just say **** it, and try to pull myself together and just work through it but it's really starting to take a toll on me, and I'm starting to feel fatigued all the time just trying to drag myself to work.

Any advice?

An asteroid impact could totally end life on the planet as we know it, yet we are doing nothing to prevent it. The risk of this occurring in the next century is 1 in 5000.

I recently asked the question on this forum labeled the following: Does a politicians open disdain for Bush and the Iraq war demoralize the morality of our brave soldiers. I must honestly say, I never thought there was ANYBODY in this country who did not consider our troops heroes, let alone several responders on this site alone. Political views aside (yes, I happen to be a Republican, but I will ALWAYS be an American first), how can anybody say our troops are not heroes? How can anybody say to paraphrase one response "they blow up innocent Iraqi's" or " they are just doing their job"? NO! They put their *** on the line for ALL AMERICANS. This sounds reminicent of how soldiers were viewed upon returning from Veitnam years ago! American soldiers will always be my heroes. The American military deserves to be thanked for their brave sacrafices instead of being grossly unnapreciated by Americans when they are "only doing their job" Thank You U.S. Military for your sacrifices.

There is no ability to lose the war in Iraq, since it is not really a war. There is no established enemy, just a huge number of sects fighting each other for control. We should have turned this over to the UN, who can manage this situation without any risk of political greed, a long time ago. Do you agree?

The reason is because she has primary and physical custody is back in May 5/ 2005 Me and my Daughters Father went our seperate ways I was in another relationship and my mother kept telling me that she would take care of my daughter for me until I could properly care for her myself. but little did I know there was a catch and as soon as I got there my mother said we should get a letter stating that I give her sole custody and She would need that letter notarized by me so in case of any medical emergencies there would be no problem if not She would not accept her. I did however signed that letter and went back to las vegas. I kept in touch with her and spoke to my daughter everyday on a cell phone. Before 6 mos I called my mom and told her I was coming to get my daughter to take her back with me My dad got on the phone and said that I should give up and forget about her have another kid. Of course I did not agree with that. 2 weeks after that conversation I got served for temp custody

Note that the majority liberals defend animals, trees, criminals, and terrorists.

Yet they can't even defend unborn babies with no say in their right to life process.

Shame on you liberals.

GOD BLESS these babies!

My son may have StrepThroat, but I could 't get a same day appointment at our Military Hospital, even though we have TriCare Prime. They offer us a walk in, throat culture eval only (results in about 72 hours).
No physician was available, however, The intern that took the culture said "Your sons tonsils are red and swollen. It looks very painful." But she couldn't offer any meds for pain. So we left.
Later that night, conditions got worse so my wife took him to the militarys Emergency Room. On check-in, the tech noticed that my son had been in earlier that day and told my wife "Since your son was in earlier, we can't do anything. We can't treat him until the results come back." My wife and son were told to leave.
Not one person looked at my sons throat just to make sure it wasn't serious. And once again, no pain relief meds were offered.

My question: Should I file a complaint against the hospital? In my humble opinion, that was PI$$ POOR service by an Emergency Room.

I honestly dont understand why people.. Specially parents fear there children joining the military. The Military isnt like, what you see on Hollywood. The Military molds boys and girls into Men & Women. When I first joined my father.. Him being a veteran, E-5 Sergeant during Vietnam was terrified that I joined. Now my Father is proud of me then he ever was. Unlike a lot of my friends I grew up with I became something out of myself. It taught me discipline, good work ethics, and most of all being a outstanding citizen. Of course it doesnt work for everyone, but the military can always make something out of you. Just enlisting doesnt automatically mean you are going to be throwned out in the front line of combat and get harmed, although it does happen. Insteading of being a drugged out, jobless citizen like a lot of my friends were, I became something.
