Well this someone that you met, probably works the deep fry at a failing fast food chain for his super secret squirrel job.

Sometimes Airmen take on extra responsibilities which require a certain degree of confidentiality. I have many additional duties, but a couple of which I can't talk about. After all, some units are undermanned and not given the luxury of having extra personnel assigned to take on these duties. It's definitely something that tends to happen to some people, but I would be judgmental concerning this person you know since I don't know them. Then again, with many "normal" jobs in the AF, you deal with a lot of sensitive material.

Yes..If one shows a talent for something other than their assigned specialty, that person can be "loaned" to another duty section...I was a mechanic and I was hurt while in Alaska...I couldn't work as a mechanic, so they put me in supply (desk job)...Later on, I was "volunteered" to coordinate my unit's wartime tasking and logistics requirements...That was a totally different job specialty than the one I was trained to do...One guy in our shop had a radio show on base in Thailand.

If one does not wish to participate in such career-broadening endeavors, just follow the sage advice from the movie -
"Look dumb, act stupid and say, nothing."...(I got 2 out of 3 - lol)

if he is talking about having some sort of covert job, he's lying through his teeth. anybody who really DOES doesn't talk about it.

but yes, it is possible to be trained in more than one specialty, or to have collateral duties.

For instance, My husband is an IWO, but he has also been the Operations Officer when circumstances called for it., like when his boss went on leave or was transferred out.

Well here's the funny thing about that. If the person was REALLY in a covert type position, they would NOT talk about it. I think what we have here is a braggart trying to get attention.

You have one main duty AFSC then you can be assigned additional duties these duties are going to be no more classified or "secret" then your main duty AFSC. Hope that answers your question.
