I have a family member who is about to graduate from college with excellent grades, proven athletic ability, and an aptitude for music. His neighborhood is very close to Dulles Airport, where on 9/11 highjackers commandeered a plane and tried to hit the Pentagon. He was deeply affected.
I’ve been asked if joining the military and serving in combat would the best thing he could do for the country. His great uncle served as an Engineer deactivating Rommel’s mines on Omaha Beach shortly before the full invasion began. We’re all proud of our uncle.
However, I heard Vice President Cheney say that the reason he did not serve in combat in Vietnam was the he had ‘more important things to do.’ However Mr. Cheney hasn’t said what those things are.
I’m hoping somebody can tell me what Cheney did that was more important than combat service. I would like to be able to give my family member a solid answer. And if what Cheney did was better than servicing, I could suggest the same course.

Donation ratio appears to confirm leftward tilt in newsrooms --MSNBC

"MSNBC.com identified 144 journalists who made political contributions
from 2004 through the start of the 2008 campaign, according to the
public records of the Federal Election Commission. Most of the
newsroom checkbooks leaned to the left: 125 journalists gave to
Democrats and liberal causes. Only 17 gave to Republicans."

When the stock market goes up, its not because of Bush or his economic policies. But when the stock market drops, its all because of Bush and his economic policies?

Did I get that right?

We live in Florida. The house is owned by my best friends Grandmother whom lives in Ohio. Her grandson, his girlfriend, and I are living on one side of the house. There is a shared kitchen in the middle of the house that we keep locked. The guy selling the drugs is also one of the home owner's grandsons. We have talked to the Owner on the phone and she refuses to believe that he would even smoke pot because she thinks hes a good kid etc. His mother (owner's daughter) is the acting land lord since she lives in town, she basically installed her kid in our house without asking us because he was selling pot out of her house, so she dumped her problem off on us, she refuses to get involved. He is smoking in the house, and we can smell it coming thru the ac vents. But the major problem is the amount of drug addicts coming in and out of our house. It is surely obvious to neighbors that this is a drug house. And we had a car burglarized already, presumably by one of his customers(was reported)

last night, I was on the highway and I was driving about 58-65, very cautious because the week beforehand I had recieved my first speeding ticket in close to 10 years of driving.

All of a sudden, an undercover car pulls me over. He comes up kind of upset saying "You don't know why I pulled you over tonight?". He asked for my license and when I went to get it he said "Don't kill yourself".

He basically didn't like the fact that I had boxes in my car (I was moving) and I told him I was going back to where I was moving too and I had been overtired because of the busy week I had and the little sleep I was getting and wanted to take care of some things.

He explained that the reason he had pulled me over was because I was "on top of my brake" (I was scared about getting pulled over again because in Taxachusetts they are always out there) and that my speeds (while not speeding by anymeans) kept fluctuating and he was concerned I w

I have to go to court tomorrow for a dispute with my landlord.

The property that we rent from him is supposed to have central A/C the unit has been broken since we moved in (January). We addressed this with him in May and have tried to settle this amicably and given ample amount of time.

At the beginning of August we sent a letter stating that we take this as him breaking the lease and that we are withholding rent and would be out within 30 days.

We are now goign to court tomorrow because he is going after our rent money that we withheld. We have since filed a counter claim on why and what we want (our rent for the months we were without A/C)

Has anyone ever been in a situation like this before? What is there that I can expect? I'm nervous and hoping that this comes out in our favor. Any advice?

No offense intended to the Indians here but at the time of independence India had a bustling population of 300 million people.

Now 60 years later India has a population, something in the order of 1 Billion people or 1 000 000 000.

Recently during the monsoon season about 300 million people (the population of India at Independence) are displaced or made into refugees in there own countries.

Albeit among those 300 million are people in India,Nepal and
Bangladesh respectively. But the vast MAJORITY are Indian.

You must accept that this figure of 300 million is currently the largest cause of refugees/internal displacement.

At this point India cannot provide for all its population causing the vast majority to be displaced or live in urban slums and Shantee towns.

Is the population of India so great that it can no longer provide for everyone.

Is india a failed state at all? Is there any hope? I hope so.

D.C. resident John Lockwood was conducting research at the Library of Congress and came across an intriguing Page 2 headline in the Nov. 2, 1922 edition of The Washington Post: "Arctic Ocean Getting Warm; Seals Vanish and Icebergs Melt." Were all gonna DIE!

I Guess there were liberal DOOMSDAYERS back in 1922. Just like Al Gore and the sheep who follow him today! My dad gave me a 99' Ford Excursion to take to School. It get's about 9 miles to the gallon, But in his words "I want to make sure if one of those Prius driving Seattle LIBS hits you while they are drinking their Pumpkin Spice Latte's and Distracted by their cell phones that my P does not get a Scratch on her". I don't feel one bit guilty about driving my SUV. The above article proves that lunatics are lunatics. They had them in 1922 and we have Al Gore today!
