Just mentioning the word is enough to make people's jaws drop. Considering that most other Western countries are socialist, why is it so alarming?

Is it the high taxes they have? Is it our phenomenal health care system we just couldn't go without? Is it the 1 month vacations they get that we are appalled by?

I don't want to live in a socialist country personally. Had to add that in there, though I know many people will be typing their response before reading that and will say "then move". But I don't see it being THAT much worse. In some ways it is better, some ways worse. But I don't think it warrants the gut reaction it gets in the U.S.

As Americans, we have been conditioned to have a knee jerk reaction to the idea of Socialism. I think it's a left over from the cold war mostly, and not much based on logic.

"THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., Aug. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- A class action lawsuit has been brought against a Thousand Oaks car wash operating in violation of California labor laws. The suit alleges that the owners of the Thousand Oaks Hand Wash hired undocumented workers and subjected them to slavery-like conditions, including forcing them to work for free for the first month and denying them overtime pay. If they stayed long enough to earn the right to be paid, they received well below minimum wage and they endured constant threats of deportation."

The suit alleges that Hand Wash, which is located at 2725 Thousand Oaks Blvd., knowingly employs undocumented workers whose lack of English skills and fear of immigration services make them easily exploited.

Hand Wash allegedly refuses to pay its employees for up to as much as the first month, after which employment may be severed without compensation if Hand Wash is not satisfied with their performance.

Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani vowed Tuesday to stop the flow of illegal immigrants into the United States.

Did he forget something? An Italian American is an American of Italian descent. The phrase may refer to someone born in the United States of Italian heritage or to someone who has immigrated to the United States from Italy.

I know that whatever president gets elected will have to agree with the NWO and PNAC. So my question is "What candidate that is running in 2008 will win?" We should be able to figure it out because anyone running who isn't for the NWO isn't going to win.

Just like in 2004: Bush and Kerry are both in Skull and Bones. They take orders from the same place, so it didn't really matter who won. The agenda would have been the same.

I saw too many things in Iraq you would never beleive. If you think this is about fighting terorism, think again.

Ask yourself how smart you are. Does it make sense that there were no terrorist in Iraq, yet Bush insisted on invading Iraq?

And then the terrorist magically appeared.

I have been reported a few times, and not for any question where I had a true violation. I have answered several of them, and was never reported. I was wondering why is it, that when being polite and respectful of the opinions of others, they report you anyway for disagreeing with them? Are they that shallow and narrow minded? It is being done by both conservatives and liberals, and all I want to know is why. I was raised to respect the opinions of others. I don't report people unless they use offensive language or make a statement, not ask a question. Why do others on here report people? I look forward to seeing the answers.

I got laid off from a govt. contractor while the renewal investigation for my TS clearance was being conducted. That was about four months ago. What happens when I get another job that requires the clearance - will the investigation just be picked up or does it start all over again? The original clearance investigation was done over five years ago. Do I still have a clearance? Thank you. The renewal process had been going on for almost a year. Seems like a waste to start all over again. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Many people advocate a flat tax which seems fair on the face of it, but ignores a crucial fact: the poorer you are, the greater the percentage of your income that goes to survival needs like food, shelter, clothing, transportation, utilities, etc, and the less income you have available for play, investment, savings, or taxes.

This is why there is an earned income tax credit--some people make so little that it doesn't cover the essentials.

I don't think people should be penalized for being successful. If your income rises, your take home pay should rise too. But that can still happen with a system based on ability to pay.

For the wealthiest, changes in tax rate don't crimp their standard of living but rather how many generations of their descendants can survive without working or even making investment decisions for themselves.

I'm not sure why anyone should be outraged that the children of the children of the children of Paris Hilton might have to get a job.

aswell as for all the work agencies usually expect in a short period of time. Particularly in Britain. Agency work is slave labour and cheap labour for the goverment. what do you think?
