IMO, I feel liberated that I am not going to buy any more toys from China, because I am afraid that there will be lead in the paint, I am protecting my children, where this government isn't. Now I can explain to my kids WHY it isn't a good toy, and I feel GOOD about that!

Most conservatives are dead-set against open borders and amnesty for illegals. Big business loves illegals because they work cheap and drive down labor costs across the board. Many companies quietly support immigration reform/amnesty programs and their Congressional sponsors for this reason. So a conservative is caught in a quandry. What's good for business is good for America, right?

RIGHT?

I seem to run into quite a few americans who seem to resign themselves to certain things....certain things that did not have to be.
They say things like "if no illegals, then our economy would fall apart". They make it sound like our country never ever functioned without illegals. They say things like "we buy almost everything made in China..its impossible to stop" is it? is it really impossible? seems not so long ago we bought nothing from china.

What is up with this resignation that we are so weak so dependent on things that we did not use to depend on? its like a disease or something....or perhaps more like a drug addict that has been fed a drug so long that now they feel they cant live without it.

As a Canadian, one of the things that has fascinated and dismayed me about American political culture is this seeming worship that Americans have for the office of the President. It seems to me that the president is expected to be the embodiment of the country's hopes and dreams instead of just another guy holding office. To give an example, the movie "Air Force One," in which Harrison Ford, as president on a hijacked presidential jet, stalks and kills all the hijackers would never have a Canadian counterpart--people would laugh at the idea here. In Canada, as a rule, the Prime Minister, like him (or her) or not, is just another guy (or woman) who holds political power, and any attempts to portray him (or her) as more would generally viewed with suspicion.

Am I right in believing that Americans want their president to be someone heroic, and if so, is that desire leading to making the American electorate, to some degree, more plialble when someone abuses that office? Please discuss.

List what you think should be the highest priority of any government. Justify why you think it too

Education, health, economy, defence, social welfare are some examples, but I'm sure people will think of others...You can only pick one

over election and politics. For Americans, the majority of us felt the same pain, anger and sadness over 9/11. Maybe with all of this fighting, we are letting the terrorist win by tearing our nation apart. Would you please take a look at this question and the answers and realize that we all pretty much feel the same way at heart?

A Red Play for The Golden State
By Jonathan Alter
Newsweek

13 August 2007 Issue
....

In February, a bipartisan coalition of former senators led by Birch Bayh, Jake Garn and Dave Durenberger unveiled a campaign for a national popular vote. Under the plan, state legislatures would pass bills that pledged to award their state's electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote. It's not clear which party this would help, but if adopted by as few as 11 states, it would guarantee that the candidate with the most votes actually won the election. Anybody got a problem with that?

Why are they afraid of giving equal time to non-Bush/neocon propaganda? Why do they want to continue to silence and censor others in favor of corporately sponsored, mind-numbing propaganda? And don't even mention Air America--the corporations are LOATHE to sponsor views that don't spout corporate welfare and neocon propaganda. That's why they get little advertising (so few people know they exist) and the reception is horrible (so you can't even find it by accident). Shouldn't broadcasters be subject to rules like in the past so that they can't abuse their use of our public airwaves to spout propaganda like in some dictatorial regime?

Why can't we go to justice being an "Eye for an Eye". I think criminals and sex offenders would stop doing what they do. I have heard that Texas, my wonderful state I live in, is trying to pass a law that sex offenders would be executed after their second offense of molesting a child! I think that is the best idea! This country needs to stop being a pansy *** and start frying these jerks that keep killing people or molesting people. They are sick in the head! Why do we need to keep them around? Fry the bastards!

I f you don't know who own Ameria yet, it is damned plain from where I stand, there is no Christan schools paid for by tax payers, and even the courts have ruled against Christans, but, the Jew's can come in after the Christans have built a nation and take control, and the Christans will no doubt sit on their collective arses and play dead, I am of the opinion that maybe we should out law the Christan religion in this country since they are so damned weak they won't stand up for their own religion, but, you can bet your butt, the Jew's and Muslim's will.

Thanks a bunch.

and there is a pressing need to make new citizens, why don’t we get the facts? I have a few questions?

What is the profit to corporations that employ illegals? What do they do with those profits?

What is the wage paid to illegal vs. legal workers?

What’s the difference to US Corporations between a legal and illegal worker? Price? Value?

If illegal immigration is good for the US who are the real benefactors? Seems to me those that benefit should be paying the cost not the rest of us?

Since the illegals are doing all the work, paying taxes and making Billions for their US employers shouldn’t the rest of us get a tax break? Really, what’s in it for the Joe and Jane American? I know….besides the usual screwed up schools, unaffordable health care and long lines at Taco Bell.
