When they go 90mph and they're not in pursuit, they are endangering everyone around them for no reason just like anyone else would be.

Just saw one tonight in an unmarked late model Impala with a government tag pulling into a closed state patrol office off the interstate. They weren't responding to a call. I was doing a little over 70 and they passed me like I was standing still.

Vindicaire - You must have me confused with someone else - This is my first question on the law enforcement section - You can find me in the Politics section most of the time talking about my conservative beliefs - We are a nation of laws, and everyone should obey them...even government officials

Just because they aren't in pursuit doesn't mean they aren't responding to something that requires them to get there as soon as possible.

I almost got HIT by a cop driving like a mad man! I had my two children in the car. I drive more careful and stop a few minutes longer in case someone drives through a stop sign. I never thought the car running the stop sign would be a cop. He had no lights on and I was in a school zone. Actually right in front of a high school around 7:00pm ( it wasn't dark yet) I freaked out! I couldn't believe it. I thought if I hadn't taken that few "moments" we could have been killed or seriously injured. I wanted to follow the cop and get his number but I was only blocks away from my house and I was in shock. I just wanted to get home safe and live another day.
I think cops have no reason to be speeding around in their patrol cars if they are NOT in pursuit. They are a danger to the public if they are speeding for no reason at all. In my eyes the cop that ran the stop sign had no lights on. He had no reason to be speeding, He could have took the life of me and my children.

properly, the fast answer is the economic device. human beings do get jobs 35 miles from abode and that they do no longer look to be amused via the holiday. So, theychronic rapid. you could no longer have that. A small automobile traveling that rapid won't stay to tell the tale a crash. according to risk they'd spend greater funds on highway Patrol rather of sending a toddler-kisser to Hawaii for a 7 day 6 night holiday.

I've wondered about that too, but there's really no way you could know why some cop is speeding or going through that red light. It could be he's heading to a call and doesn't want to alert a suspect by having his lights and siren on, or he could just be in a hurry to get to lunch. Either way, I don't get too broken up over a cop getting away with some minor crap unless he gives somebody a hard time who doesn't deserve it.

How do you know what the officers were doing? Maybe there was a call, and the officer needed special equipment at the office. You have no idea. Quite often I would go to calls without lights and sirens...and yes, there were many times when I would sit at a light for a second, then flip on the lights, then turn them off once through it. That is just a way to alert the public to the possible hazard. Officers can use any means necessary to get to a call as long as they can articulate the need to do so. Every single time I did so I was on the way to a call, but one that did not justify using the lights for the whole drive there.
Have a good day.

We never know what has come over a cops radio when a cruiser speeds up and does over the speed limit. They may not be in pursuit, but they just may be heading to yours or your neighbors house to answer an alarm, or to a store or bank to confront a burglar or thief. We cant know what type of emergency they may be going to. Just be glad theyre passing you by and not following you!

Would you want me driving the speed limit and stopping at all red-lights and stop-signs when I was on my way to your home while it was being broken into, or your parents being robbed, or your child being abducted?
I actually drive slower than the speed limit if I'm not on my way to a call.
Sometimes we have to get somewhere really fast, but we don't want the people there to know we are coming.
There is a lot more to it than just a bunch of cops speeding around town because they can.

Let 'em be in a hurry! They are likely responding to a call that requires stealth. And if they hit me, they've got insurance too. Yeah, I know it's taxpayer gasoline, but that's okay. If they get there in time to stop something really bad going on because of some hopped-up dirtbags screwball priorities, more power to 'em! ...I damn sure don't want the job. I'd get too jaded, too quickly.

Hello,
I drive alot and I also have a lead foot. It isn't
that I do not respect the law, because when I
realize that I am speeding. I always slow down.
I just enjoy driving so much that I get carried away.
