The US Consumer Product Safety Commission has had its budget slashed over the past few years.
We are on our own in regards to toys, products, recalls........
Use to be Japan made superb stuff like my Pioneer and Technic receivers now almost everything including the way overpriced Longaberger Baskets and poetry are now made in China.

Pretty much agree with iwasnotanazipolka. I'm not American But aren't there regulatory authorities safety checking toys. In the UK there is the British Standards Institution, which has to prior approve toys and other products giving a Kite Mark, Lion Mark or something similar to approved/safety passed products. Having said that there are always those that pass through the net. I can see why you are concerned, I just read this:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/6697591.stm
From this article it looks like they had promised to make efforts with a 'national compulsory safety certification beginning from 1 June' (same article). But China have an appauling record on Human and Animal Rights so there is a moral issue. Mind you this could apply equally to several countries, including the ones we live in perhaps.

I don't buy anything from China. There are three reasons:
1. The Chinese worker is treated like crap - recent talk of slavery are just the tip of the iceberg.
2. China REALLY wants to destroy our economy and the more we buy, the easier it is for them to make inroads into that aim.
3. Chinese quality control is nonexistent. A few years ago, I bought (through Amazon) a NIKON camera. When I got it, I saw it was made in China and I knew is was going to be a piece of crap. For reasons I won't go into, I couldn't replace it and now it sits, the poor workmanship has done it in. Now I have a CANON made in Japan, where I had assumed the NIKON was made.
Boycott Chinese products, not just toys but everything. It is Unamerican to support the Red Chinese and their evil system.

Good luck finding toys that are not made in China, as most toys sold in the USA are made in China. We should really cut back our trade with China as they are the leading Communist country in the world and they truly are an enemy. They have thousands of spies in the US stealing our military and corporate secrets, and they sell billions of dollars of pirated material that is copyrighted by US corporations.
I am for "fair trade" with China, which we do not have now.
How about buying some videos or books which are made by US companies for Christmas and birthday presents for children?

I really don't think we are being protected enough. There have been so many recalls on items from China lately. I try to always buy American made products. Especially with things like plates/silverware and any type of dinning ware because I know China's goods are full of lead.

What you should buy is what you find to be the best quality for the price.
It doesn't matter where it's made. It's actually the patriotic thing to do.
We live in a free market system. If you believe in that, the best thing you can do to preserve it is let it work.
If you think a Japanese product is better than it's American counterpart, buy the Japanese one. That's the simplest way to make American products better and more valuable. The competitive market has made products better, cheaper and easier to get.
If you don't trust a product, by all means, don't buy it.

definite i'm. i'm additionally ill of being informed that production jobs replaced into lost in this u . s . through fact it replaced into extra reasonable to make an identical issues in China. the worry is they at the instant are not an identical issues, through fact the chinese language (not in simple terms the chinese language, the Turks and Indians too) at the instant are not being held to an identical point of high quality through fact the British, ecu and individuals who used to make an identical products, yet for extra money. One case being a press gadget I as quickly as dealt with from Turkey. the point of expertise on it replaced into so undesirable that we called in a representative from our customer (Ford) and informed him that if we could easily journey the Turkish point of high quality for his or her cost. The reaction replaced into "we want your point of high quality at their fees." it extremely is the mentality which Western manufacturers have been up against for years. although I honestly have recently heard that numerous agencies who used to outsource production to China, have desperate to quit the prepare in favour of generating the products right here instead. the clarification being that they at the instant are not as inexpensive, they are in a position to't get the products in time, and high quality. As for electric powered products, I honestly have in simple terms back a computerised Celestron telescope through fact of a defective motor and poorly assembled mount. @rswipe "Your outstanding. My Honda Civic in simple terms lasted 22 years, whilst I had an entire stream of Allegro's, Maxi's and a Triumph carry in between 1970 and 1972! Wait..............." 2 issues to assert to that. a million. it variety of feels unusual what proportion actual everyone seems to be bitter with reference to the decimation of generating under Thatcher, thinking how sh!t it replaced into back then. 2. it is ironic which you stated the Honda Civic as almost all of Civics bought throughout the time of Europe considering 2001 and to on the present time, have been made in Swindon.
