"This isn't the 15th century. You can't go around the world and just plant flags and say 'We're claiming this territory'," said Canadian Foreign Minister Peter MacKay.

"There is no threat to Canadian sovereignty in the Arctic ... we're not at all concerned about this mission -- basically it's just a show by Russia."

In the wake of Katrina, and seeing how our bridges are in need of attention....would you want future administrations focused on building America, or would you want dollars sent overseas to build new democracies? Given that Congress is now debating further spending and is stuck with George W. Bush's bills (having spent way more than anticipated in Iraq), do you see where America can also afford the added expense of fortifying infrastructure in need of repair or rebuilding?

Footnote: Saudi Arabia's huge oil revenue puts it in a position to build modern cities on the Red Sea, self contained with all the latest technologies...even having energy available at half the cost of what the rest of the world spends...while America under present Administration has squandered resources to (virtually) go it alone to fortify other nations.

What is wrong with this picture, or are you okay with it?

At our weekly staff meeting, employees at my place of business were informed by head management that there have been reports to our General Office regarding employee's MySpace pages. We were all told that anything derogatory regarding the company or people who worked within that was displayed on an employee's MySpace page would be dealt with "harshly" up to and including termination. A fellow employee had, just days before, posted a blog venting about our place of business and certain management. She did not name names, she did not include the company name in her blog or anything of the like. My question is: can an employee be terminated because of what they do "off the clock" if it is not illegal? Bear in mind, I live in an "at-will" state, which means you are employed at the will of the employer and can be fired for no particular reason at all, so the law about it is a bit sticky. Thanks.

My great aunt and her husband durring the 1940's went to kuwait and Iraq, because he worked for an oil company, they brought back some prayer rugs and some large brass serving trays for feasts (one is about 4 feet across) they brought back some swords too, one in particular is unique, is is about a 1.5 feet long it is made of steel with a curved blade, it has a steel sheath as well, when you pull it out of the sheath the blade springs out into 3 seperate blades, it has been hand etched over the entirety of the sword/sheath with pictures of muslim men in turbans (some have what looks like crowns on their heads) kneeling and it looks like they are praying with their arms crossed, the artwork looks similar to the style that Europe used durring the dark ages. the sword is in good shape just some surface discoloration, has anyone ever seen/know of something like this? Any idea as to the age of this sword, thanks in advance, we have no antique specialsist in Yakima Wa. where I live.

What if a country decided our way of government was wrong, invaded, executed our leader and put in there own type of government for us to follow? I don't think this could happen because not many countries have as many weapons as us, but if it did, what would you do? Bomb people? Leave the country? Rejoice??

Just wondering.

Do you think it's a radical organization? Or do you think it's a significant organization that truly wants to protect animal rights? Opinions please. I have my own, but I'd like to hear what others say first.

I remember seeing a P-38 for the first time in my C rations in basic training. I thought that was the coolest thing to have on a keychain. If I still had one i'ld probably eat a lot more canned food. Are those still military issue?

It does not take a political genius to know that Democrats have no possibility for victory if the Iraq situation improves drastically before the Presidential election. I am not slamming on any party nor do I need to hear again your opinions concerning this administration. I think most honest people can agree that this war was not entirely justified or properly executed. It is just a little depressing to know that some politicians deep inside would not want our troops and foreign policies to succeed. I guess they always have the Cuban healthcare platform. Anyone that believes our government can oversee healthcare needs to visit their local VA hospital. It is also ironic that people come from all over the world for healthcare.

how do you liberate a nation which is occupied by a foreign power whose government is brutal and is run by just a few people who hold on to their power. We sure know that the UN doesn't work. After all those peaceful protesting and non -violent activism it hasn't proven successful and there's been no results for the freedom of the oppressed people. We all know that the nations of the world act in their own self interest. so how do we fight this dictatorship to gain freedom? if there's any freedom fighters out there, what would you suggest? i am sorry but i can't give further details cuz i am a private person dealing with this issue.

Especially those who believe he's some megalomaniac who's trying to become a life-long dictator (everyone by now has seen the people claiming he will fake a terrorist attack, ect. to cancel the elections), have no problem with the fact that Ted Kennedy has been in power since the dawn of time? Or complain that FDR served four terms? Or the multitude of Democratic senators and congressman who will have a seat until they die or retire?

A lot of these same people love to quote Thomas Jefferson, who believed in 'Citizen Legislators' who served for one, maybe two terms, then returned to the farm to give someone new a shot? How can people claim Bush is trying to become a dictator, when historically it's Democrats that hang on to power for the longest period of time?

I've seen it alleged repeatedly by sympathetic members here that illegals "pay taxes".
HOW ?!?

They're here illegally.
They have no driver's license.
They have no social security card.
They have no passport or papers or green card.

I live in Florida and I've met many illegals, mostly in medical offices where I've worked. And if it did any good, I would report them to INS, at least the suspicion they're here illegally.

As I understand it, they can use fake identification, by borrowing a legal friend's Social security card and driver's license.
Or take some unknown living or dead person's social security number and info (i.e., identity theft).

Either one of these is a crime.

But the majority of illegals I've known, or suspected, who are here illegally simply have under-the-table jobs, in restaurants, as housekeepers, house-painting, construction, pressure-cleaning, or some other cash business, and thus pay no taxes.
So please, how do they pay taxes?

Its pretty obvious when you ask a question that would require an answer that would reflect harshly on their party, and then its asked over and over again till it reflects and opposite response.

Do they find some thrill in this, or are they to lazy to question anything on their own?
