John Smith writes me a check for $100. It is drawn out of John Smith's account with ABC Bank and the signature on the front is his (no issue of forgery). The check is made payable to me.

I sign the back of the check (nothing else). I give the check to a local store who cashes the check for me on the spot. The check ultimately bounces.

Do I have any liability for that?

I would. Thank you Mr. Bush, for vetoing the funding for the troops yesterday. I thought for a moment that the Democrats might have to take some reponsibility for this travesty of a war. I appreciate you putting the responsiility solely back on your shoulders and for ignoring the will of the American people. I hope you get every penny you want and have no strings attached, as then there is no way you can come back and blame the Democrats for the deaths of our American soldiers. I would also like to thank you for further proving to Americans that you and the Republican party don't care what they think and handing us the election in '08 on a silver platter. By the time the elections come around, you will find little support for staying the course. Thank you Mr. Bush. You are a Democrat's best friend.

In 1998, Saddam stopped allowing the weapons inspectors into Iraq because Richard Butler, the then head of the UNSCOM, allowed the CIA to infiltrate, after which the commission was used for espionage, and Saddam naturally knew what was happening. The US would have done the same thing if it had been the other way around and Iraq had been inspecting the US and using the commission for espionage.

Setup: a parent buys a car and thier daughter exclusively drives it. Daughter (Jane) is involved in a accident and has no insurance at the time. Jane has an aquaintence that owns a body shop, so she takes the car there. The body shop owner says the best thing to do is for her to get insurance and give him the info, and then he will file the claim and in the mean time he will give her a loaner car. Jane thinks this sounds like a good plan and agrees. A couple months later, Jane is involved in another accident in the loaner car. The body shop owner then starts implying that he needs be getting sexual favors for all the help he is giving Jane. Jane refuses and the body shop owner stops being so helpful and tells Jane she needs to pay over $9,000 in charges to get her car back. $500 for her car and $8500 for the rental. Jane's parents names are on the title of the car and Jane has no legal athority to have any work done on the car. How can Jane's parents get their car back?

An intriguing new article in the left-leaning magazine, The Nation, makes the case for comparing our current global warming frenzy, and the business of selling "carbon footprint" credits, to the sale of indugences by the Roman Catholic Church during an arguably corrupt period of time in the history of the church. http://www.thenation.com/docprem.mhtml?i=20070514&s=cockburn

THIS CONSERVATIVE CERTAINLY THINK SO. LET'S HOPE HE'S RIGHT.

"There are cycles in history where one party or one movement ascends for a while and then it sows the seeds of its own self-destruction," said Bruce Bartlett, a conservative analyst and author of the 2006 book "Impostor: How George W. Bush Bankrupted America and Betrayed the Reagan Legacy."

Bartlett added, "It's clear we have come to an end of a Republican conservative era."

HE'S RIGHT. THERE ARE CYCLES BETWEEN LEFT-WING LIBERALISM/RADICALISM/PROGRESSIVISM AND RIGHT-WING CONSERVATISM. IT IS LIKE A PENDELUM SWINGING TO THE LEFT FOR 20/30 YEARS THEN BACK THE OTHER WAY. THE THING THAT SOME PEOPLE DON'T REALIZE IS THAT IN THE LONG RUN THE PENDELUM ITSELF IS MOVING TOWARDS THE LEFT (AKA PROGRESS).

We've all seen the news, congress approves a bill with a timetable included, Bush vetoes it. Bush wants an open-ended cash flow, and congress wants an idea of when this will all come to a close. If congress is so determined why don't they just start cutting funding for the war? What will this all result in?
(Serious answers please)

Someone in another thread expressed shock that someone gave a thumbs down to a vet. I am a vet myself, and while I would prefer that people respect my service, I expect NOBODY to respect me simply because I am a vet. You don't know me..why would I think I command your respect simply because I am a veteran? respect my service, and the time I gave to my country, but you can dislike me and the ideals I stand for all you want.

"AUSTIN — Gov. Rick Perry said Monday that Texans who are legally licensed to carry concealed handguns should be able to take the weapons anywhere, including churches, bars, courthouses and college campuses. "

Do you want people carrying guns into your church?

Is it responsible for people to carry guns into bars...where people are drinking heavily...and are more prone to bar fights...

Is this really the solution to our nations problems...for all of us to strap on a gun?

Is this what our world has become...a bunch of vigilantes?

Does this scare you as much as it does me?

Your thoughts?
