“Did Riel Receive A Fair Trial?”
By: Samira 8-3

Riel was charged with high treason for leading the North-West Rebellion against the Queen and her Canadian government in 1885 in what is now Saskatchewan. Prime Minister Macdonald decided that he had to be executed regardless of widespread belief that Riel was mentally ill and should be given mercy.
Riel's execution is often seen as a breaking point in relations between French and English.
Louis Riel did not receive a fair trial from a number of perspectives. One would include, that the case against Riel was being heard by a jury of six English- speaking men. At that point, English and French were not the best people who were getting along. English- speaking men at the small courtroom in Regina have been against Riel’s beliefs and his side of the story.
When the Hudson’s Bay Company gave up the control of Rupert’s Land in 1869, Riel created the Provisional Government to get closer to the Métis rights. Many English-speaking men thought that this was obligating treason. Treason expresses once someone is over throwing the government in power.
Ultimately, Riel was on trial. Quebec was concerned that if Riel would be hanged, they would be angry with Conservative Party and if he would not be hanged, Ontario would be enraged.
Many members of the Canadian government believed that Riel was an insane and was not responsible for his acts. He did not refuse that he stayed at a mental hospital, but Riel said that the doctors had specialized that he was cured.
Louis Riel was insane man, but his plan was to populate the divisions of Canada with many races, Catholic and Protestant. Many Metis thought that if Riel was insane, would sane men follow an insane leader- risk their lives for him, respect him and confide in him.
Louis Riel was no traitor in Canada. He was a loyalist who stood up for his people and their beliefs.

heres how my unorthodox questions work. they do not give my stance or anything, however, i'm gonig to provide 3 valid points for each side and whichever side you choose to side with refute the opposite points. I. E. if i said 1. i like watermelon because then you would say no, you do not like watermelon because
PLEASE do not say "i agree with these points!" unless you are also refuting the opposite side's points. thank you!
Pro:
1. School uniforms would help to unify the students as a whole
2. Uniforms would prevent richer students from flaunting new clothes
3. Dress codes would be No longer needed, and this helps stress on teachers as well, as they don't have to scan their students every day for breaking of that code
Con:
1. Many kids feel that the only thing they can control is what they wear, and they couldn't even do that
2. would cause lots more money/electricity used..need to wash/replace uniform many times
3. May cause more students put in homeschool (PO'd parents)

Our Government decides so many things that we as a people are against yet they do these things more and more often, What would happen if everyone decided for example 'none of us were going to pay the congestion charge anymore' surley they couldnt fine everyone? and if they did but we all united and refused to pay the fines - they couldnt take everyone to court could they?

I support the troops by joining them. Soon for boot camp in Ft. Leonard Wood.
If you say you support the troops but not their mission, how do you support the troops? Why don't more of the people who say they do put their money where their mouth is? Despite what John Kerry may say, I have many opportunities. Not only that but I am living a very comfortable life as a health care professional. I'll fight and die for all of the people to praise/bash the USA and/or administration. Funny how so many do put up or shut up. So how do you support the troops? Now is the time.

Answer the question. How do you, in the real world, support the troops?

Pro:
1. In the case of getting no outside help, what are they going to do?
2. What's wrong with vengeance? isn't an eye for an eye correct?
3. Jail = parole / bail / plea bargains, unless it's a life sentence.
Con:
1. That sort of violence is never justified
2. encourages murderers to get away with what they're doing
3. are we truly civilized, to justify the killing of people?

"On the Federal judiciary I would want judges who are strict constructionists because I am. I’m a lawyer. I’ve argued cases in the Supreme Court. I’ve argued cases in the Court of Appeals in different parts of the country. I have a very, very strong view that for this country to work, for our freedoms to be protected, judges have to interpret not invent the Constitution. Otherwise you end up, when judges invent the constitution, with your liberties being hurt. Because legislatures get to make those decisions and the legislature in South Carolina might make that decision one way and the legislature in California a different one. And that’s part of our freedom and when that’s taken away from you that’s terrible. President Bush has the great model because I think as the President he appointed some really good ones and both of them are former colleagues of mine, Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Alito. Justice Scalia is a former colleague of mine. Somebody that…I think Chief Justice Robert

America is not at war with such poor representation. Our troops are at war.We keep sending back the same people over and over again. We turn our heads and forget that a war is going on .We would rather watch Desparate housewives than watch the news or listen to the President speak. We need a draft now to get proper representation of our country. The cowards do not want to fight or join.I served the USMC for over 20 years and still don't understand why we don't have a draft.Serve America,Love it or leave it.The terrorist will not go away. God help us when they start blowing up america .Look how many cars, trains, buildings, dams, reservoirs, refineries, bridges, tunnels, and ports we have just to name a few.The President seems to be the only one supporting this effort. The troops only want more troops to protect their flanks. You don't hear them complaining. They want the war to stay there not here. Wake up America and quit bitching before it's too late. One % of our population = 3,000,000,troops !

All right...side that supports the change: Pro
1. UN is specifically designed to combat injustice in the world, such as terrorism
2. UN is engineered in such a way that it can communicate with terrorist countries, negotiate.
3. US is not powerful enough to stand alone against terrorism
Con: (us should take this over)
1. UN is corrupted in that it includes these terrorist countries... they're not going to support the combat of terrorism
2. UN has no standing army to "combat" terrorism
3. UN is still trying to decide the definition of terrorism too passive!!

Why does the American left support the Mexican government's abuse of its population by supporting illegal immigration. Why do they support the Corporations that further abuse Mexicans by exploiting them for cheap labour? You would think they would push Mexico to stop their abuse of Mexican citizens human rights so they can live well in their own country! Instead the American left allows these illegal immigrants to commit crimes against the American people. I just don't see the rationale!

Why should people be forced to pay into a system that they wouldn't subscribe to if they live in a free society?

Many people will never see even one dime of the money they pay into this system

In a free society, shouldn't individuals be given the ability to opt out?
