America is not at war with such poor representation. Our troops are at war.We keep sending back the same people over and over again. We turn our heads and forget that a war is going on .We would rather watch Desparate housewives than watch the news or listen to the President speak. We need a draft now to get proper representation of our country. The cowards do not want to fight or join.I served the USMC for over 20 years and still don't understand why we don't have a draft.Serve America,Love it or leave it.The terrorist will not go away. God help us when they start blowing up america .Look how many cars, trains, buildings, dams, reservoirs, refineries, bridges, tunnels, and ports we have just to name a few.The President seems to be the only one supporting this effort. The troops only want more troops to protect their flanks. You don't hear them complaining. They want the war to stay there not here. Wake up America and quit bitching before it's too late. One % of our population = 3,000,000,troops !

No.

"You go to war with the Army you have."--Donald Rumsfeld

This adage has made me realize that there is no such thing as "enough" simply because the definition has been changing constantly. I mean there is a reason why we have ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY. We're finding new ways to fight It is to make things more EFFICIENT so we don't need all that manpower and therefore, a draft. It's supposed to reduce the deaths and be CHEAPER. The problem with a draft is it is going to bring in more UNmotivated people who can cause more BEHAVIORAL problems (court martials), therefore things wouldn't be running as smoothly compared if we have VOLUNTEERS. I'm told I'm supposed to do things that I'm good at rather than what I'm weak at. That's how the economy works. The reason why we're getting more medals PROPORTIONALLY in the Olympics than all of the other countries is because American volunteers are willing to do the work. Also, I thought the U.S. is a free country so joining the military should be a choice.

Remember just because something is big does not always mean it will do a whole lot better.

I hope you're not one of those who complain about the costs and the deaths.

Simple, we send only those who WANT to be in the military. They VOLUNTEER. We find with no draft, we don't get people in the military who shouldn't be there. You joined and stayed in the military because something about the military appealed to you. I respect and honor your service, but soldiering is not for everyone. What if I told you everyone had to become a teacher for a few years to make up for the teacher shortage. The quality of our education system would go down even further. Or everyone had to become some type of salesman. Some people aren't cut out to be a soldier. You are a rare breed. I don't think you realize how special you are. There are so few people who couldn't do what you do. Typical military. Way too humble.

I think you're a little confused. Our military HAS roughly 3,000,000 men and women. We're only SENDING 150,000 to Iraq. We're more than filling our enlistment quotas as people are flocking to recruiting stations to sign up!

As to a draft, at the end of the day it would be the worst thing that ever happened to our military! The reason our army is so invincible on the field is that it's made up of brave men and women who serve in that capacity because they WANT to. Their sense of duty outweighs any fears they might have. As soon as we institute a draft we dilute the morale, expertise, energy, will-power, discipline, and raw bravery of our army. Based on my knowledge of the history of warfare, I would rather have an army of 150,000 volunteers than 300,000 conscripts.

There IS something to be said for having everyone serve in the army for a given period of time like they do in Israel. Most young Americans could benefit from a nice dose of reality and discipline...

Thanks for your service bro. You've definitely hit on a big problem in our country.

So you want to send 3,000,000 troops to Iraq? What idiocy.
Let Iraqis fight their own civil war, and if they want to continue the killing, that's their business.
P.S. I would rather watch Desperate Housewives than listen to Bush talk through his hat. (Like Daniel A: Zionist P above. US Army = Invincible? Only in the movies!)

you think a draft is "American" people fighting against their will is...American. thank god you're not in charge. People CHOOSE to join our military, thats why his is AMERICA and not communist China. Shame on you for thinking its ok to force AMericans into war machines. Our coutry was never designed to be a war machine to get involved into other peoples business, it was designed to protect "truth liberty and the American dream"

now, I realize by your rant you may be unaware of what liberty is, but by definition its"freedom of choice" NOT your choice for our fellow Americans, but their own choice.

Also, being in the USMC, which I think you're lying about or you didn't read anything there. Because...as a USM your job is to defend freedom, not by inslaving AMERICANS, but by attacking the "bad guys' who stnd in the way of that very freedom.

People like you are why we have to fight for freedoms.

But is 1% of our population willing and ABLE to go? By criteria set by US and international law the Iraq action is an illegal one. We now have commissioned officers declaring themselves conscientious objectors. We have a volunteer army, and its still the largest army in the world. America has stuck its fingers into other nations business often enough that its coming back to haunt us. We may believe we are right, and we may believe that we are doing what is righteous. But those other countries are losing tolerance with our interference. In Viet Nam my father volunteered because the rumor was if you volunteered you wouldn't be sent to Viet Nam or your choice of duty would be given more consideration. He went to Viet Nam. My stepdad was drafted and spent his tour at Aberdeen Proving Grounds. Military intelligence is still the same oxymoron its always been.
